R.I.P. National Artists Awards, 1972-2009

R.I.P. National Artists Awards, 1972-2009

F. Sionil Jose, Arturo Luz, Bienvenido Lumbera, Virgilio Almario, Bencab, Salvador Bernal will lead artists and community in a Necrological Service and Funeral March for the National Artists Awards on Friday, August 7, 2009, 2 to 6 pm, at the Front Ramp of the Cultural Center of the Philippines on Roxas Blvd. Please come in mourning clothes.

Let us JOIN HANDS on this day of sadness. This is the day when the National Artists Award in the Philippines LOST all its credibility.

See PEP NEWS and Gerry Alanguilan's post on the same subject so that those who would ask me would know why. It's all there.

**A Questionable Victory

**Bottom Line: Carlo J. Caparas is NOT Qualified

Robin's quick post-script: Friends, please also sign this online petition and in so doing maybe help prevent the complete bastardization of the National Artist Awards.

Carlo J. Caparas is Not Qualified to be National Artist

Personally, I can't imagine how in hell Caparas deserved to be ranked among the likes of Vicente Manansala, Fernando Amorsolo, Botong Francisco, Jose Garcia Villa, Nick Joaquin, Levi Celerio, Lucio San Pedro, Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal... National Artists who ALL truly deserved their title.

He should have withdrawn (as should have Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, but that's another can of worms).

What else does one expect of someone who has built a career out of having no shame?
