The Honor of Interviewing Danny Acuña and Clem Rivera

Yep, it's still Robin, but nevermind me. Read on :) The article I did for Playboy Philippines is my favorite assigned article so far since it gave me the opportunity to write about the people whose role in reviving the local comics industry has in my opinion been ignored in favor of a more flamboyant showbiz personality (with questionable merits I should add, but I already vilified him in an earlier post). It also allowed me to meet and chat with veteran artists Danny Acuña and Clem Rivera whose work I'm ashamed to admit I wasn't familiar with prior to working on the article. Now that I know what they've accomplished and how hard they've had to struggle, I'm all the richer for it.

This post-interview supplement is my way of thanking them again for their time and their candor. In some way, I also hope it pays just tribute to their immense talent and the generosity of their spirit.

Most of the anecdotes Sir Danny shared with me I was able to include in the article, but I wasn't able to write about the production-line style of page creation he described. This was adopted as circulation for comics increased and more pages were demanded of each artist. Lesser known artists were allowed to assist the "big name" artists, but only the well-known artist got the credit. The assistants though were given a percentage of the main artist's fee.

Now Sir Danny spoke of a pay scale that ranged from A1 (for the likes of Francisco Coching and Nestor Redondo)to D at PhP125 per page which goes down to 100, 75, 60 and 45 depending on where the artist was on the scale. He says it was possible to assist multiple artists at the time and he himself preferred to assist Nestor Malgapo and Fred Carrillo and share a percentage of their fee rather than slave away at a full page for only P45.

I wonder now if that system may have in part contributed to the eventual stagnation of the industry in the 80s, with new artists not being given the chance to develop on their own and opting instead to assist those who were already established.

In those days, though, the acknowledged comics superstars were undisputed masters of their craft. Of Coching's 45 comics novels, Sir Danny says, "nagsisimula pa lang, binibili na ng producer (they weren't even completed yet and producers already wanted to buy them.)" He compares this with another who has claimed that 80 of his 1000 novels have been turned into movies. Sir Danny smiled at me and said, "What percentage is that?"

He remembers the big billboard ads for the P10 comics only a few years ago and asks where they all are now. The real revival he believes is in the hands of a determined new generation of creators.

"Mahina pa rin ang comics pero nakikita mo naumpisahan na, ayun sumisigla (Comics are slowly coming back,)" he says,"ang comics magagawa mo ngayon na paxerox-xerox lang (you can make comics now through photocopies)" and you hear in Sir Danny's voice just how much he marvels at this.

He urges support of comics today if only for patriotism and he also stresses the need to educate audiences about the value of art. He tells of a colleague whose original pages were used by his wife to pick up dog poop. "Hindi nila iminulat kung gaano kahalaga ang trabaho ng artist," he rues. It saddens him too that many are still unfamiliar with our own rich folklore and mythology. "Sinarahan ng kamangmangan."

And yet Sir Danny admires the creators who persist in creating comics today. "Ang lakas ng spirit non no! Iba yung sa kanila eh. Di nila tinignan yung pera"

"Dun sa comics convention, dumami sila, nabuhay sila. Kaming mga senior, kaming veterans, nabuhayan na din. Gumagawa na rin kami ulit ng comics." (Their spirit is amazing! They don't care about money. There are even more comics creators now because of the conventions. They've inspired us seniors to go back to creating comics too.)

"Ang comics pag binuhay mo, zombie lalabas dyan. Patay na eh."

Animator Clem Rivera was one of the veteran artists Sir Danny convinced to come out of retirement at the height of last year's National Artist controversy. Their outrage over those questionable proceedings and the developments in the local independent comic book scene encouraged them all to go back to creating comics. ""I knew i wasn't going to earn from it," he says, "but I wanted to be part of the industry again"

He told me that years before, he really had no plans of going into comics. "Dati akong nagtatrabaho sa pabrika ng sinulid. Factory worker ako. Pagkatapos nagkaroon ng problema sa post ko. Nagresign ako. Nun pa lang ako naging interesado sa komiks." (I used to work at a thread factory. It was only after I resigned due to some trouble at work that I became interested in comics.)

Sir Clem says he knew a little bit about drawing but it was his godfather, Mar Santana, another local comics master, whom he really learned from. "Walang formal training," he says. He just watched and copied what his godfather was drawing until 15 days later Santana said he was ready. He was 25 at the time.

As a full-time comic book artist, Sir Clem says he used to be able to produce eight pages a night for 16 hours of continuous work daily. Those were fully penciled and inked pages so he got used to only getting four hours of sleep a day. He did that for 15 years, with only Saturday night as his time off. The punishing work paid for the college fees of his three children, something he says he couldn't have managed if he didn't work that hard.

When he started out, Sir Clem says he was paid P15 per page; by the time he left the industry he was up to PhP300 per page. Rates for artists he says didn't increase for years; it didn't matter if a local talent already got international exposure, publishers had to keep the prices of their books down.

It was from Sir Clem that I learned that an artist's drawing table is never silent. He used to turn the quarter sheet of cartolina he was drawing on repeatedly to get the right perspective. If you don't hear the sound of the paper scraping again and again on the desk, he says, the artist probably isn't really working ;)

My final quote for the Playboy article came from Sir Clem. Here's the quote in its entirety. "Bubuhayin mo yung comics, tapos ilalabas mong comics yung namatay na comics. Sinong bibili nyan? Sabi ko nga kay Rico Rival, pagka ang comics binuhay mo, zombie lalabas dyan. Patay na eh."

"Pag yung patay pinabangon mo, zombie yon. Ang kailangan sa komics ipanganak muli. Maging brand new." (If you revive the dead, you'll end up with a zombie. Comics need to be reborn.)

Of Local Comics Gods, Rocker Homecomings, Playboy Magazine and Other June Highlights

Robin still at the helm as Myke is hard at work at his latest timed sketch. The sight of Myke bent over his drawing table until the wee hours of the morning is becoming more and more common as he continues to refine the art in his comics portfolio. What he used to tell me he did only "for fun" he's now dead serious about pursuing. It's helped that the pros over at Sketchpad Studios have seen the merit of his work and he's now training with them; but it's admittedly been a difficult adjustment as he has to stay there one night each week. Still, I'm insanely fan-girl proud of him and it's with more than a fan-girl's gushing that I pronounce that he's made a quantum leap in the quality of his art :) Please visit his Deviant Art gallery and see what I mean.

We've also been out and about nearly every weekend, starting with the Bayan Knights meeting early in the month. This was our first meeting again after the Summer Komikon and it was one of our most productive too. We're looking forward to sharing the group's upcoming projects soon :) We were glad that Jon Zamar was also able to join us for the first time and the visit of a surprise guest made the meet even more memorable -- Myke invited local comics god Roy Allan Martinez who arrived later that evening with his girlfriend, Paris Imshi :D

The moment the tall, long-haired messianic figure walked in, the Knights fell silent and I swear I've never seen them look so timid, hehe. There's talk now of an Exodus reunion :) here's wishing with all our fan-ardent hearts it'll become a reality.

A couple weeks later, Myke and I were at the UP College of Fine Arts reunion at Club Dredd. Now, I'd never been to Club Dredd before and the life I lived before meeting Myke was so hopelessly square I'd have likely gone through the rest of it without ever having set foot in Dredd. The few times we kicked back for a few drinks in Eastwood though he was reluctant to check out its new home above Gweilo's. On Edsa, whether we're in a bus or a cab, he never fails to turn his head in the direction of the old Dredd to pay homage, reminisce, and then rue its demise in 1998. The idea of his old "home" relocating to ritzy Eastwood seemed to him to be sacrilege of the highest order... until he was back there with old friends and familiar faces and it was like 1995 all over again :)

1995 was the year Myke got into UP as a Fine Arts freshman entirely through his own efforts, and it was also the year I ran screaming from the College of Science (after doing the same from the College of Engineering years earlier) into the College of Arts and Letters as a European Languages shiftee. It was the year we both found the path we were going to be on for the rest of our lives (notwithstanding a few detours and a healthy dose of branching out along the way). That night in Dredd, we were once again where we were on the brink of possibility and Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots and the other grunge bands provided one hell of a soundtrack.

The reunion party was high octane from the start with one awesome FA band playing after another. By the time the Intergalactic Butt-Nuggets were onstage ripping through one death metal number after another, I was in my zone with my beer and completely oblivious of Myke's urging to take a photo of him just chilling with Leinil Yu (yep, he's a CFA alumnus too!) I do remember seeing them talking though and thinking, "Aw, they're getting along...great party...great people... oh hey, an unopened beer bottle..."

In the midst of all this, my article on the revival of Philippine comics came out in the June issue of Playboy. This was a bloody difficult article to write, as in madugo @#$%! There was the tremendous history of Philippine comics I had to take a crash course in and online resources The Philippine Komiks Encylcopedia and Gerry Alanguilan's Philippine Comics Museum were indispensable in that regard. I also wanted very badly to do justice to the anecdotes and insights my interview subjects willingly shared; these were people I deeply admire and whose work meant a great deal to me. Being a member of Bayan Knights, I've seen first-hand what our creators have to go through just to get their books out so I really wanted to make the most of this opportunity to tell their story.

I had the honor of being able to interview veteran artists Danny Acuña and Clem Rivera, Komikon organizer Jon Zamar, comics pros Edgar Tadeo and Gerry Alanguilan, publishers Boboy Yonzon and Gilbert Monsanto, indie creator Gener Pedriña, multimedia guru Jonas Diego and Metrocon/Sketcpad Studios top honcho Ernest Hernandez. The article was also made possible by the assistance of artists Heubert Khan Michael and Jann Galino.

There was so much I learned from them that I wanted to put in the article but I kept trimming details away in order to make the 3000 word limit :( Maybe next weekend if we're not rushing off to another event I can make a separate blog entry for the stories I could no longer include in the article.

For now, Myke and I are just so very grateful for the opportunities that have come our way. Yesterday, we also celebrated our 20th month together by staying home and just cuddling up before the TV.

Belated Birthday Video (Warning: Less than Sober Annotation)

Robin can't sleep so she once again takes over. Myke and I have yet to develop the habit of immediately transferring image and video files from our respective phones to the laptop for uploading, hence the delay in sharing this year's Clawie birthday escapade. It was one of our quieter celebrations, and we'll just blame the occasional hiccups on tequila and the sudden bursts of laughter :)

After buying his gift (more on that later, eheh), I lead him to Sakae Sushi at the ground floor of SM North Edsa. I'd eaten at their branch at the Mall of Asia before and found the eat-all-you-can-sushi-on-conveyor-belt a fun test of wills between the diner and the restaurant management. One has to grab all the good tasty stuff before the chef starts churning out endless permutations of fried tokwa skin stuffed with rice balls.

It was Myke's first eat-all-you-can sushi experience and he was at first daunted when I plunked down six saucers of sushi from the get-go. He soon enjoyed munching on raw salmon, cream dory, tuna, and even squid. Before long, he was standing to take things from the conveyor belt himself, keeping an eye on each new offering even as he chewed.

The chef eventually caught on and after a blitzkrieg first half hour, the taro balls started to come out. Myke decided to wait it out another half hour before resigning himself to a final saucer of tamago sushi as his encore. At P399 per person, though, with free miso soup and unlimited hot or cold green tea, Sakae Sushi had a good deal going. We promised ourselves we'd go back... and park ourselves at a table as early as 5 or 6 o' clock in the evening, hehe.

Not having seen a movie together since Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, we bought tickets to see Clash of the Titans. Having both grown up though remembering the 1981 movie starring Sir Laurence Olivier and LA Law's Harry Hamlin, we were sorely disappointed. Zeus in frikking armor??? Perseus not marrying Andromeda??? Black Pegasus????? Sacrilege.

I'm not even going into the absence of Hermes, the unnecessary liberties with the story, the everyone-has-to-have-a-moment storytelling...

Hayz. Just about the only highlight was seeing Mike "Boy Ipis" Ignacio and his girlfriend, Ailyn, as we were stepping out of the movie house. We often bump into the couple on the weekends we do our groceries. I swear we're each other's fans :p

Disgruntled and still way too chatty after the movie (well, I was :P), we decided to wind down at Agave at the Sky Garden. There was a nice acoustic band that night that seemed to be made up of kids who were fresh out of college. As soon as he heard them play, though, Clawie let his hair down and menaced them with his aura :p

I had my first strawberry margarita, didn't like it so much, then ordered my first pineapple margarita. First margaritas apparently make me a whole new level of chatty and Clawie spent the latter half of our stay convincing me why it would be unwise to order a third. When the band ended their set, we headed for home as well. In the cab, he had the smile of a young boy looking forward to trying out his new toy.

Which is what he did as soon as we got home. There were a few glitches with the installation though and I recorded the process in a 12-minute video. Those extra last two minutes however have made the video impossible to upload here or on YouTube so I'm afraid we'll never get to show you his Cookie Monster intro to How Not to Install a Wacom Bamboo.

Oh yeah, the Wacom Bamboo was my gift to him this year and in the vid below he happily gives his brand new pen and tablet a test drive. Fair warning: There is evidence of my two first margaritas in the quality of my videography.

Next year should prove to be even more fun. Among other things, I hear Agave offers bottomless margaritas :D

Superheroes from the 70's show Part 1

Isis or "The Secrets of Isis"

Starring:
Joanna Kara Cameron - sometimes listed as JoAnna Cameron, (born September 20, 1951)

My favorite of all the superhero T.V. series back in the 70's when I was just a kid. I like her alot (yep! better than Linda Carter). Well, I guess it's because of the time slot the show was being aired (around afternoon - while Wonder Woman was on the evening prime time), and she is very pretty. Anyway, I also did like the cartoon version of this "SUPER 7".

A little facts: Andrea Thomas (played by JoAnna Cameron), a high school science teacher who found an ancient mystical amulet on an archeological dig in Egypt. The amulet belonged to Hatshepsut, an ancient Egyptian Queen and it gave the wearer the powers of Isis. Andrea, by virtue of being able to open the casing in which the amulet rested, was recognized as an heir to Isis's secrets. Whenever Isis was needed, Andrea would reveal the amulet and recite an incantation ("O Mighty Isis!") and she would be transformed into the goddess Isis.

As Isis she was given great strength, the ability to move inanimate objects, and the power to fly and run at super speed. To invoke her powers, she often intoned rhythmic rhyming chants, such as "O zephyr winds which blow on high, lift me now so I can fly," which enabled her to fly.

The Secrets of Isis ran for two seasons from September 6, 1975 to September 3, 1977. Twenty-two episodes were produced and Isis also appeared in three episodes of the related Saturday morning super-hero drama Shazam!. Despite the show's popularity it was not renewed for a third season. The character of Isis later appeared in a cartoon called Tarzan and the Super 7 with the voice provided by a different actress.

ELECTRA WOMAN and Dyna Girl

I only have some short memory of this TV series. I only remember is the tone of it's theme song. Kinda weird when I saw some episodes on Youtube. Anyway, some info: Sid and Marty Krofft show "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl" which originally aired on ABC television back in 1976-77.

In Fall, 2000 the WB network commissioned a pilot to be made of a new Electra Woman and Dyna Girl to be set in contemporary time. The plot was advertised as the once world-famous superheroine Electra Woman who, since the departure of Dyna Girl to become a supermodel, has become a disillusioned, foul-mouthed, trailer-park alcoholic. Judy Bennett, a journalism student rescued as a child by Electra Woman and Dyna Girl returns the favor by getting Electra Woman back in action and becoming her sidekick Dyna Girl.

The pilot starred Markie Post as Electra Woman and Anne Stedman as Dyna Girl.
The WB optioned not to pick up the pilot as a series for the 2001-02 season. As of now, there are no plans for any other netowrk to pick up the show.

EARN FROM ADSENSE?

I AM NOT HAPPY!

As a customer and As a person who trusted a COMPANY to HELP me in small little ways, is now very frustrated.

I just got informed through email that I won't be receiving any payments from them (ADSENSE), because of "Generating Invalid Activity". I just want to know WHY and HOW did they come up with that conclusion?!

I asked friends from all of my social networking site to visit my blog and heavily promoted ADSENSE, and they responded very well. Some of my friends in the U.S. and locally said that the ads are very helpful and they'd come back (some, almost everyday) to check new ads that could be very helpful for them. Specially those in the arts community that I am very much active and which I earn greater amount of money than here. But like everything else that tied up to a big company, you have RESPECT for them and never thought that they'd gonna do this to you.

$100 is so small, YES, very small as an earning for almost 2 years. They can have the $100 and I don't mind. I don't care if I don't get it. They can have it. But I HOPE, they could just give me a specific, very precised report to what really had happened why I did get axed from their payment list.

If they gonna tell me that, because 3 to 5 people on my blog list frequently clicked my ads or in a day all of a sudden they'd all clicked to adsense from my blog, then that is ridiculous! Very ridiculous. I cannot tell them to click or not to click even if I don't have new entry here. Would that be a ground for me (or alot of users of ADSENSE) for them to conclude that I did commit "Generating Invalid Activity"?

So, aslong as I don't have any concrete and defined reason to How or WHY I got my AdSense Account Disabled, I will stick to my mind that "THEY JUST USED ME AS A FREE ADVERTISING ARM TO PROMOTE THEM AND OTHER PEOPLE".

How about you? Haven't you thought about that?

Ohh...SIDE NOTE:

If all of a sudden my blog (this blog), would suddenly disappears, you guys know why. Don't think I removed it.

Robin's postscript: This is a sad development after over a year of admittedly encouraging family and friends to visit our blog and check out the ads. But this be the way this cookie crumbles and we all just best move on.

Still, I can't help but think of how we started out with the Adsense program hoping it could help somehow in defraying the cost of our future wedding. Myke and I both have other means of employment and it's true that $100 dollars would have just been a drop in the bucket in the long run... but, for something this important, every drop counts :(

We're both the eldest children in our families and we both have considerable obligations to meet. We take all sorts of jobs on the side just to help things along, so yeah we're grateful for any reprieve that can come our way.

In any case, we've both learned from this and although we've lost our Google ads, we still have our widgets from Amazon Associates. Basically, if you go to www.amazon.com from our blog and place an order, then we get a wee bit back. They've got these adorable widgets too that let us share with you the items we like -- downloadable mp3s mostly :D and DVDs, plus comics but we still need to update our list, eheh.

If you've clicked on our ads, thank you so much. Myke and I have always appreciated your support.

And just so we can end this debacle on a positive note, we hope you can drop by tomorrow, 17 April 2010, at the U.P. Bahay ng Alumni in the U.P. Diliman Campus for the Summer Komikon Fiesta 2010 and the launch of Bayan Knights #4. Last year's first Summerkon was loads of fun and though the heat is likelier to be literally more intense this year, it's an event the true comics fan shouldn't miss. See you there!

It's Myke's Birthday Tomorrow!!!

And Robin once again briefly takes over: I hate to say it, but Myke won't be donning a feathered mardi gras headpiece this year. He says he's on to me and I can't pull the same stunt as last year. Phooey.

Which isn't to say I don't have something else planned *giggle, giggle* He'll find out soon enough and there may just be a video sequel too, heehee.

For now, though, I'd like to share this excerpt of a meme I made for him last Valentine's. Its gooey entirety can be viewed from my Deviant Art page, but I think this first part pretty much says it all about the man with whom I now share all my dreams :)

We can squabble like nothing else on this planet (suppressed chortle), but in the end we always come back to being each other's best friend, and each other's partner in all things.

We've got a lot planned this year and we hope we can tell all of you about it soon :) There are even a few trips out of town in the works (and Lord knows we both need a vacation), including a return to Samal Island later in the year.

Lookie, I made a slideshow of our Davao trip last year! Not only do I delight in such things, but I've once again downed a tumbler of coffee!

My BMX Asian Xtour experience

Yeah. This event prompted me to re-activate my riding career. Saw these photos last week while cleaning the study table. I think it's about time to share the experience from that event, my first ever X-game (Asian Xgames) competion.

The last time I rode a bike long 'nuff for my butt to hurt was on April 1995. I got my bike (this bike) five months before this event (can't imagine I did that), and true enough, with short of a time to prepare, I was placed almost dead last from a 30plus competitors. Not a nice thing to brag to beer buddies, but it'll be another nice story to tell to my kids while they'll growing up.

Anyway, I entered the BMX Flatland event, while waiting inline, you could see some of the already some of the guys doing their practice runs. And just by watching them gave me a cold sweat and cold feet. But yeah, was determined to go through it. Besides, I dunno if they'll comeback the next year (they did and it was the last), so it's do or die.
After signing up, I went inside the arena.
I'm having a mixed feeling while walking towards the flatland area. Too happy and too excited to ride the floor, and in a couple of minutes of looking around. I rode circles around the floor and in just a few minutes was bustin my tricks.
I did my routine, and it went well. I have a combo tricks that I was doing since the 90's...so it's old school compared to what they are doing, fast linking trick. Well, mines not that old. I had some few new combos too. Let me try to break it down.
First part would be SIDE GLIDE to Steam Roller to Ankle Death to reverse exit.
2nd part was STEAM ROLLER to Funky Chicken to Boomerang to Boomerankle.
3rd, In and Over to bar hops entrance to Front Yard to Fire Cracker exit.

Then the back wheel tricks.
Bike stall to Locomotive to backyard to backyard glide to spastick backyard to a quick Lardyard exit. Twas insane! I pulled them (not consistently) at practice. I was happy with my practice run that afternoon. So happy-hyper that I even had fun riding the ramps (which they didn't allowed for flatlanders).

GAME TIME. It started around 6p.m. and I was very nervous as hell! My hands were sweating like fruit juice and my tummy started to have butterflies.
They gave us two - two (2) minutes runs to qualify. I was enjoying watching the other riders ahead of me and told myself that two minutes is too short of a time. I can finish my run after time expires or I might not finish it at all, for I thought I had a long routine.

STAGE TIME. When the called my name and number. I was confident. Confident in a way that I have an old yet decent run to show. So I pedal away.
I will do the first part of my routine, I said to my self. So I hoped out of the pedal and placed my foot to both pegs. Ready to kick and show them my tricks. And I did. Kicked the rear peg, the frame swang to the right going left as I ready my hand to catch the seat to align to my bar to perform a SIDE GLIDE, the tip of the seat slipped pass my finger. I didn't panic because I can grab the seat infront of me to do a steam roller, which I did. But when I tried to put my leg across the bar, I CRASHED! Crashed hard, that my bike slid. I pick up my bike and ride it again. Did the same entrance position and kicked! I did the Side Glide to steam roller and when I put the rear wheel down and let it flow to do the Ankle Death, my leg hit the front tire..and yes, I crashed again. Now I was panicking.

Panic mode didn't help. For the sweating hands also add more to my woes. I crashed after crash after crash. The short two minutes in that arena felt like an hour. And every crash made it hard for me to gain control of myself. I was killing myself out there. BADLY.

When my run was over, Archie Babiera talked to me. Told me to take it easy and I still have a chance to show my true worth. It was nice to hear some encouraging words after a badly beaten run. So I relaxed while waiting my turn. An hour passed and it's me again, have some little confidence in me, but I was just now determine to have fun and enjoy my time there.

I went to do the 3rd set of my routine, and I hoped to do a locomotive, but when I reached for the bars, it slipped. And, the fun went go with it. The crash was too loud and heavy and I almost fell on my butt first. What transpired from my first run was nothing different from my second run. I was disappointed to myself as I walk away from the floor. I just let the dark shadows of the ramps eat me to the point that they don't see me at all. I lay my bike on the ground and sat on it. Got my cellphone and texted my brother Jesse who was with me, watching from the bleachers. Text him "I DID BAD!", he just replied, atleast you've got to experience to compete in an XGAME arena. He was right. But, I'm still beaten so bad. It was a quiet night going home. Hungry and hurting...Inside.

I still rode and prepared for the next year. I was well prepared..but competition time, I came late. The comp started after lunch, we who didn't stay there were anticipating another night schedule. It was another heart breaking thing, A very heart breaking thing. The comp was held at Alabang. I still ride after that. Will be continuing to ride for the love for flatland.

After four years, sadly, the bike was stolen inside our compound. It was heart breakin' but I can't do anything. We tried to search for it for almost a month. But we just gave up. Up to now, it still hurts everytime I remember how precious this bike was to me.
I'm starting to built one now, from some second hand part and from good friends donating their old but still usable parts. Looking forward and hoping to ride again before the end of this year....word is "HOPING".

ROBIN's Minor Operation

Yup! Last Thursday (March 11, 2010 at 3:15pm) Robin went to a minor operation. It'll be the first time for both of us in different manner. She being operated and Me having so close and very dear to me to have gone through that kind of operation.

Waiting feverishly for her operation to be over, and after an hour, the operation was successful and it all went very well. She was heavily sedated. She was complaining that from her hips to her toes we're numb. And she will talk to me in just 5 minutes and she'll go back to sleep that last for 15 to 20 minutes.

But after an hour and a half, she was okey. talking as if nothing had happened (which is very fine by me, coz' I know that she is now back to normal). Ohh yes. She started complaining yet smiling. I like it when she smiles at me. Makes me wanna hug her tight (is hubby feelin' when I is wit her :D ).

Five days after her operation, she was back to her normal self, although she was complaining of some minor pain, but she is fine. The mefenamic acid that was prescribed to her was very good at releaving the pain. But just like me, she also get some sort of hyper acidity or tummy spasm. But like I said, she is okey and the medicine is I think a normal reaction even if you drink it with a full stomach.

So yeah...I wanna share you some of the picture I took when we were at the hospital.
And both of US want to thank each and everyone who prayed for her. Thank you guys and gals! You know who you are.

We also wanted to thank her doctor, Dra. Cabalza and the nurse named Mike who patiently help me when we we're there. Both of them took care of my baby very well. Thank you so much.

York Uno and Flipbykes FLATMASTER 2K9

Last December, Me and Robin attended the Flipbykes FlatMaster 2K9 which was held at VENETIAL MALL, Park Ave.,Upper McKinley Hill, Forth Bonifacio, Taguig City. We got there before lunch and the event started late afternoon.(York Uno busting his move)

It was Robin's fist time to attend this kind of an event. She is very supportive of the things I like(well...we do that to each other, guess that's one reason why we love each others company - for some of you who still can't believe that we're together and stronger than ever.), Riding BMX-flatland. She saw some of the best rider in Asia and the Philippines has to offer. From our turf they are: Renz Viaje, Denny Varquez and Julian Angelo “Coco” dela Cruz among others, going up against Taslem Raziff a.k.a BOTAK, Fadli Bin Kamal a.k.a PAKTAM and Hezlan of Malaysia. And from Japan, Shintaro Misawa and Asian X-games winner York Uno, who is well known to the BMX flatland circuits around the world.

It was a sight to behold. Rider after rider spins, glide one trick to another faster than anyone could ever imagine. But York is in a different level. He was the man of the hour. The rider every rider wants to see, watch and cheered. He was so amazing! 10 years ago when I first saw him on the pages of BMXPLUS (a magazine in the USA that focus on BMX riding, style and treds), and I said, this guys is really cool. And 10 years after who would know that I will be standing right beside him and having our pictures taken by Robin (thanks honey!) and seeing him ride in person!

We talked just briefly, bout him, and what he thinks bout the event and we talked bout Terry Adams too. :D. He isn't just a cool rider but a great guy as well.

I will definitely watch the event again this year and I hope the organizer (Joel Gonzales and Kris Gironella .. nice work you two!) can bring them all back. And I will bring an extra battery for my cell phone camera so I could take more videos. :D

Dunno where I came from when I first heard this song played inside the bus was riding.
Listening to it just made me hump and followed the beat unintentionally and told myself, Darn! Pinoy HIP HOP is gettin really good. Yeah! Well, I was wrong on some part for it's not all Pinoy but a lone Pinoy in a foreign group.

I'm talking bout Apl.de.Ap of the famous Black Eye Peas. They've sold millions of record (or should I say CD's) world wide. They're so popular that they've garnered alot of group and individual awards in the music industry, here and around the world.

He grew up in Pampanga and when he turned 14, he went to the United States. There he attended John Marshall High School and he met William Adams (stage name will.i.am).
Dante Santiago then introduced Will to Stacy 'Fergie' Ferguson, who joined the band in 2003.

Back to the song. It's hard not to like the song, Well, the intro itself is very familiar "BALITA" from the band Asin. Then he narrates where he grew up and what it's like in his hometown. Back after a decade living in the US, he said nothing has change, now it's much worse. And since the MAY 2010 election is getting nearer, I hope everyone heard about this song of Apl and remembers it's indirect message bout our country too.

So, I hope that we can cast our vote wisely and make a better place for us and our future kids to live.

I keep telling people, here's a man with a full-time day job, a wife and small kids. And yet he manages to release his independent title _without fail_ every four months. He delivers his books to bookstores all over the city and attends every single convention there is. He does this not because there's any profit involved, but because he genuinely loves comics.

The time: Almost 2a.m. on a Sunday. I forgot the exact date. :D

Thene here, she made a photo manipulation/layout using some online template. I already posted the edited version on my Deviantart account. She's learning to play with photo editors now. And she knows how to pic the right photo and right size to crop for a certain templait.

This will be my first entry for year 2010. I guess everyone wondered why I stopped writing…well, Robin and I have become busy with work in and out of our office and whenever she and I have a day of rest, we grab it and be lazy the whole day.

It’s tiring to work 8 to 10 hours a day and be up early Saturday too. Sunday would be a rest day, but we visiting my family at Navotas to make my nieces happy (they too make us happy). We missed them so much, and they’re so cute.

We always tried to go back to writing here (and I think I did…regarding the last POWERADE basketball team…which when I started to upload it, it hanged and everything just vanished...PAKSYETH!), but still we can’t get nuff time. Robin and I even think of a new page/title for blogging. We planned to call it “YAYAB and WIFEY! – Journey to food tripping”, but that too was shelve for now.

But a little rundown on what happed to us when were absent from blogging.

GRAND EVENT:
Our 1st year Anniversary! And still going strong!

1. We went to Davao with her sister to visit their mom last September. Davao is so beautiful. Love the food. The beach. The history of that place. I love to go back there again. Soon.

2. We went to the 5th Comicon with my youngest brother Matt Renz and my niece Fae. That was a lot of fun. The kids specially Faye enjoyed meeting those creators and artist (she met Ian Sta. Maria, Ka'jo, most of BK people, Gerry Alanguilan, Jonas and alot more)…ohh and the dancing ala Michael Jackson - Spiderman. (Seriously!)

3. She (Robin) writes an article for Playboy Magazine (Philippines) for their December Issue. Common guys, get out of your house and buy that issue! (My wifey is a very good writer and she is my editor for the Claw: Re-told)

4. We spend Christmas Eve with my family at Navotas and went to Ayala Alabang to her Auntie Billie on the afternoon of Christmas day. Met there for the first time their Uncle Mayok, who lives at Edmonton, Canada. And also Tita Ada and her pretty and talented daughter (just like wifey here) Katy.

5. Spent New Year with my family and have to leave 5a.m. to be with her (miss her already). And we went to her grand-parent’s house for a New Year get together. It's my second time to be with them on this annual family gathering. It was fun and much relaxed now. I had fun talking to Tita Neyri and Tita Leny. And I love her lola Rosie's Menudo Lengua. Robin loves the shrips.

I bonded with the boys. Drinking session with Tito Leo, Tito Lui and Lolo Romy. That ROCKS! Lolo even opened up two bottles of wine. I love that Autralian wine. Now if only I could remember the name. :P

6. Now, busy with comic pages. Robin, busy with her office work and she's kinda sick lately, most probably it's because of the current weather we're having. But been taking good care of her. :D

Now, I hope this will be the great startup and a fresh start for blogging.

He should have withdrawn (as should have Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, but that's another can of worms).

What else does one expect of someone who has built a career out of having no shame?

Myke as Mardi Gras King and other Birthday Misadventures

Robin briefly takes over because Myke is unlikely to be online again til Monday :p

He won't get to see this then til after his birthday, making it the perfect opportunity for me to reveal ... the goofy side of Claw, hehe.

You could say we'd been celebrating since we got him his Flipbykes shirt almost a month ago, but the real fun began last friday, 03 April 2009.

Tired and a little cranky after work, I lead him to SM Megamall's atrium for dinner thinking that a nice cozy restaurant away from the crowds would perk him up. I finally convinced him to walk into Gumbo on the second floor by saying that "Terry Adams eats this stuff all the time..." Sorry for dragging you into this, Terry, but he can't think of New Orleans without thinking of the Flatland competition you're holding there this August :)

I'd eaten at another branch of Gumbo before and they serve the best Seafood Jambalaya and Bourbon Ribs I've tried yet. The cooks in the kitchen also have this amusing way of announcing that a new batch of jambalaya is ready for serving. All together, they holler, "Uno, dos, tres, ah-hummmm... JAMBALAYA!!!"

I told Myke that it was a traditional New Orleans thing, hollering and all, just to see what he'd say. He gave me the look he probably reserves for very small children and said, "I'm going to ask Terry..."

Eheh. Anyway, the manager and a waiter saw that he was already trying to open the gift I gave him and they both asked him if it was his birthday. I knew what was coming but feigned innocence. I figured I was going to enjoy every bit of what came next :D

Finally, last Monday, 06 April 2009, Myke could no longer stand the suspense. He had to find out what sort of gift I'd given him. After we got to my house from church, he began to open the package... Then again, I should specify that he _attempted_ to open the package. This other video should clarify what I mean ;)

Oh, oh, and as if that wasn't enough... here's the epilogue...

I know the recorded conversation barely stays within the limits of the tolerably cheesy, but hey, it's his birthday and the first one we're celebrating together :)

Besides, at the very least, we haven't started cooing to each other on Twitter ^_^

McDonalds Commercial

This is not about the international foodchain McDonals why I posted this video. Though I am a big fan of them, because of their yummy cheese burgers (for a burger meal they'd give you one small pack of ketchup and you have to get them at the counter again and again if you need more) and refreshing floats and milkshakes (not all serves them). And a big fan of their pancakes (sad because here at Mcdo near my office, the syrup in "NOT" pour all you can). So, I did stop eating pancakes here, but I still love them and eat there.

Anyway, I post this TV add because I think the video tells it all.That is how hard it is to become the eldest child in a Pinoy family or maybe even around the world. You always have to give way to your younger siblings. Understand them, and be very patient towards them. Most of all, your parents entrusted you that whatever happen, we must protect them all cost. With a country that believes to much with Pro-create, I wonder if they think about what their eldest child is feeling towards it. Anyway, just watch the video. Sometimes, we need to be a little selfish to enjoy something by ourselves.. especially if it is eating a McDonald's burgers.

I am a huge fan of this man. That is why Robin bought me his new "Terry Adams' DREAM" DVD. Still very thankful for that honey. And when I told Terry bout what she did, he replied through email (yep! He answers emails from fans around the globe..cool guy.) "Your girlfriend seems super cool and supportive of you. She sounds like a keeper for sure. Thats so awesome she ordered the video for you!" And I believed him even if he didn't told me that.

He introduced RAP MUSIC to our homes and introduce it the Pinoy way.
Who would think that a "Tula or balagtasan" (Poetry or debate) and add some beat could turn into a magical music, which Francis Magalona shared with us. A great actor like his parents Pancho Magalona and Tita Duran. He was into teen/action comedy back then when he first introduce himself to all the Filipinos young and old alike with the hit song "MGA KABABAYAN" (my countrymen). Man from Manila (which I got the idea to create "Mykemanila" my name on my Deviantart). And Kaleidoscope World and so on and on.

He is one great artist that made a big mark on the music industry and I think in the local movie industry. He is also a great host/co-host (Music Bureau to the number one noon-time show in tha Philippine "Eat Bulaga"). His KABATAAN PARA SA KINABUKASAN song was always being played on my friend's car (Ian Sta. Maria)everytime we were going to their place. Hector, Argem and I would would do the hand-arm action when chorus comes. Those were the days. And yes who would thought that Francis M would be a great influence to us and to boosting my self-confidence. Yo! Francis! Your the MAN!

Just last year, he was diagnosed with cancer of the blood or what we all know as leukemia. Everybody watched, wait and prayed for his fast recovery. And he did. He even came back to do a jamming with Eraserhead front man Ely Buendia last Oct. 25 2008. They brought the house down! It was killer! Everyone was convinced... The Man is back!

But the rejuvenation didn't last long. Today - March 6, 2009 at the noontime show. The head host, Vic Sotto announced that Francis"Kiko" Magalona died this noon of leukemia.
I was shocked! Devastated! And told myself "Not him". "Not yet".
Then after a couple of minutes, I accepted the sad news.
Took my earphone. Placed it on my head. Opened my Winamp player and played my Francis M album while writing this blog for him.

To Francis family and friends, condolences to you all.
To Francis M, the Man, my prayers for you.
Another journey now awaits for you. Another team-up for you but now with the biggest artist in the universe, our LORD GOD.

**Robin interviewed him (August 22, 1998) when she was still writing for Junior Inquirer. The title was "Mr. Cool Went to Nature School". A little cheesy, but he was called that way back then.

Robin's postscript: I heard about Francis' passing in the cab on the way to work today and the first person I thought of was Myke. I knew he was a big fan and early in our relationship he sent me a copy of Francis M's "Pen and Ink."

Whenever I hear of someone dying, I can't help but fall quiet and wonder about the people they leave behind. From what I saw in the media, Francis had a beautiful family -- eight wonderful children and his absolute soul-mate in his wife Pia. I hope they're finding strength in the love they have for each other during this difficult time.

I also can't help but deeply admire Pia for standing by her man throughout everything. She shared his interests, his passions; and with him she carried his burdens. Yet she was also always her own person.

That's a woman I will respect for all time.

What she must be going through right now, I can't even begin to imagine. Her husband touched the lives of so many people. When I interviewed Francis more than ten years ago, I felt like I was talking to a college buddy who spoke gamely about his childhood kapilyuhan rather than the big celebrity that he was. He was open, and warm, and really, really funny.

Francis was one of the good guys and, ironically, there now hardly seems to be enough words for how much he will be missed.

I AM NO SUPERMAN.
I AM NOT A PUPPET TO ANYONE.

This is the part of the year where I always assert myself from my day job.
This is the part of the year where, If not for my present loan I would love to resign.
This is the part of the year where , the blame would all point at me.
And yes...this is that "F" month where how I wish I am relieved with this job.

I have been an all around in-house-artist for more than 3years now on this job, and I manage to do all of these things which to my belief, should be done by 3 people and should be housed in a room called art department, and not just a squatter on a room with a different department. NOT JUST BY ME ALONE. Yep. I, alone make all the designs for the office and our clients.

This is the time of year when all harsh words would fly around.
This is the time of year for me that my self-confidence dropped down to near zero.
This is the time where all your laughing buddies would stay away a hundred miles at you.
And yes... this is again the "F" month where I wish they could just fired me.

No, seriously. I'd rather hear from them to fire me instead of hearing how awful as a graphic artist I am to them, for them.

I had offers. But I still have to pay some stuff that I really really don't know If I should pay it or not (but I am gonna pay it, so less talk and arguments).
I could hear them angry voices coming from the other room regarding the flaws on my work....as a TYPESETTER (not a graphic artist, mind you, but a type setter).

How I wish they could get another artist for me to teach as early as now. I am wishing too much. GOD! Please let some one take my job at this office. Before I could under go that humiliation, those harsh, cursing words again that really doesn't answer the problem on my work load but merely worsen it, year after year.

Again seriously, If not for the loan and the thing I have to pay, I am already long gone.

PLAYGROUND Magazine taps BK artist

I have been a fan of PLAYGROUND Magazine since I saw them at the news stand. I have couple of their issues and had always been fascinated of their magazine because of their "imported look" to their magazine (akala ko nga tlga imported..hehehe). They have a very colorful and nicely layout pages and their updates on the gaming circuit are great, besides I think I can relate to them because some of the people behind this magazine is about my age (twentiyish...hehehe) and good looking guys (again just like me..hahaha!) and sometimes with hot chicks too.

I am also fascinated of how they've come up with their covers. Some done in line-art and WIP and some are done with mixed application (3D and WIP - like their issue number two, which I like the most). I thought they have an in-house-artist for that, but I was surprised just a few weeks ago that one of my BK co-member/creator was asked by them to create a cover. I was stoked! It's to good to be true! But he is serious! And the magazine is for real. We're just too happy for him just hearing that he was being considered to make the cover. We're very proud of them (him and Omi - who colored his work)when the cover was finished.

KUDOS to both of you and to PLAYGROUND for getting two of our talented creator(s) to work for them on this issue. Now I just hope to get a copy of this issue soon (went to National Bookstore at SM manila last night, but sad to say they still don't have this issue). :P

Learning 3D Maya software

I just thinking for the past few month now is "What is it for me next, after doing Graphic Design for more that a decade"? Well, I am active in comicbook and busy with my title "Myke Guisinga's CLAW". Member of a local group called "BAYAN KNIGHTS". A very active group, I might say and I am very lucky and honored to be part of this amazing group with bunch of talented and wonderful people. But again, what is really the next thing for me, regarding my career? Joining again my bandmates and try our luck in the local scene? Assemble a BMX flatland bike for me to compete internationally? Or quit my job while I am still young and travel the different cities here in our country without thinking of my future or my health. Or marry my labsidabsi here and start a family and settle in Bohol to have our own mini-cafe/library/art gallery. Kewl! Don't cha think?

Then I stumble upon the trial software called 3D Max. I try enjoyed toying with it and realized that this could be the answer to my long searched question...or not. So I search to what school or learning centers have this kind of program, this is where I stumble upon MICROCADD. They have the most advance and the biggest Autodesk Training Center (ATC) in the Philippines. And they teaches/offer the 3D Animation MAYA. And after 3 months I could say that I have learned alot from this center and very thankful to my instructor Isagani.

I am starting to construct my own design now. This is part of a robot named Voltes V (Five). This is the head part, and it is called the Volt-Crewzer. Few more spare hours and I know I can finish this. Post the final output soon.

After finishing the details on the face, I quickly gave it a coloring. I wish I could put details on how I did this. Maybe next update. Anyway, I created three(3) different angle and lighting shots. I hope you all love it.

Last Saturday (Feb. 21, 2009) another article for Bayan Knight came out on the Philippine Daily Inquirer. The daily talked to Gilbert Monsanto (creator of TROPA, RAMBOL and have worked for MARVEL & IMAGE COMICS in the U.S. of A) about the group and a little about his life, when and how he started with doing comicbook.

SM Manila Food court bus boy & security are the greatest.

Every Wednesday night after office hours, we guys at the office have our basketball game at the YMCA beside the SM Manila mall & behind the Manila City Hall. Before the game, I would go to the mall’s basement to buy a bottle of Gatorade’s Propel and then go to Wendy’s restaurant to have my value meal macaroni salad. I usually do that and never bothered to change the routine since I love the salad so much. But I don’t know why, last Wednesday, I felt like going to the SM Food court to get a heavy meal.

I looked around to see what was feasible and stopped at Pinoy Toppings (I didn’t forget the name of the fast-food where I bought my dinner. Hehehe!) to get a burgersilog (that’s an order of a big burger patty, a large cup of rice and fried egg with free soup). When I went back to my table, I realized then that it was shaky as hell. So, unsatisfied with where I was, I went to look for another place to stay and eat my dinner. That’s when I think I misplaced my wallet and it fell to the ground when I stood up. I thought that I had already put it inside my bag when I put my cell phone back in (what a stupid thing to do. I know). Anyway, I finished my food and happily walked back to the 1st floor. Good thing I re-checked everything when I reached the next floor. I started to panic but got a hold of myself and ran back toward where I ate. Seeing nothing was there, I went back towards the fist place I sat. A man sitting at the opposite table called my attention and asked me what I was looking for, so I told him that my wallet was missing. He then told me that the bus boy got something on the floor. Thank GOD! I really don’t know if that was my wallet or not, but at least it was a good sign. So I asked the attendant of Pinoy Toppings where to go and they gave me directions going to the security office (Thanks to the cashier and the man who called my attention - didn’t get their names).

So there I was, huffin’ and catching my breath and at the same time praying that they did get my wallet. I talked to the lady guard (Emily Casuga) and told her what happened. And I was relieved when I saw what she was holding -- my wallet! The chief security named Mr. Rolando Ordoñez asked me my name, and I told them who I was and I even showed them my office I.D. They were very nice and I think they were helping me calm down. They told me that the one who found my wallet is named Leopoldo Castro – Thanks bro! They told me that it was a good thing their people got my wallet, for if it was another customer the probability of surrendering it to them would be so slim (based on their records and experience, I guess). After Ms. Casuga wrote down all the contents of my wallet in her log-book I was made to sign there. And before leaving, I shook their hands, thanking them for what they did and thanking them for doing a great job. I haven’t been so proud of people in uniform until now.

Again, I would like to thank Mr. Leopoldo Castro who found my wallet.

Still Waiting (A Love Story :-P )

Still waiting.

Until now. Up to now.

I am still waiting.
I thought back then, If I am a grown-up, I could...and I might have.
We'll be playing till the end of night.
Maybe when I just go too tired out of exhaustion then that'll be the time i'll let go.
Night and day we both shall play. Action every action.
Ohh...yes, I am not counting out the love and hate that come with that.
I was dreaming too much.
I was wrong.

Still, almost 30years later. I am lonely. Wishing and waiting.

Wanting and waiting to have my own..

I was seven years old back then. I vividly remembered everything.
The day I first knew bout it. The first time I learned bout it.
And when I actually saw one of it! Oooh Yes! That was the day!
My first Christmas where I have to cry and cry day and night to my parents hearing distance.

"I WANT MY VOLTES V(FIVE)!" "I WANT MY VOLTES V(FIVE - sounds like FAYYYYYYYYYB!)!"

Every year. Every Christmas. That was the only gift that matters to me.
And I guess, in my heart this will always be on my #1 list to have for christmas.

SOME FACT FROM VOLTES FIVE's CREATOR: NAGAHAMA TADAO

Combattler V, Voltes V, and Daimos are also known as the "NAGAHAMA Tadao Romance Robot Anime Trilogy". They were created by NAGAHAMA Tadao, one of the best super robot anime creators in my opinion.

Not so many recognize him because of his early departure...he worked very closely with TOMINO Yoshiyuki, the creator of Gundam, and other real robot anime like Ideon, Dunbine, and L-Gaim. NAGAHAMA Tadao (born on 26. September 1932) worked with anime such as Kyojin No Hoshi, and the later half of Yuusha Raideen (the first half was done by TOMINO Yoshiyuki), which lead him to create the trilogy Combattler V, Voltes V and Daimos. Afterwards, he worked on the first half of Daltanias, and later went into work on Rose of Versailles and Ulysses 33....he passed away after completing the first episode of Ulysses 33 on 14. January 1980. His anime always had a very dramatic effect..and of course, some of the heavy stuff concerning slavery and prejudice between races...etc.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

There's alot of sad stories why all of a sudden there was a Wolverine Origin. Almost 32years later they suddenly came up with his identity. I am one of those fans who liked Wolverine so much because for one, of his being mysterious. His past is unknown. Who he is? Where he grew up? And, how did they put the adamantium and by whom and why did they put them there in the first place. It's a mystery that I wasn't expecting or does not want to know at this time, this decade or the next.

But somehow, with the success of X-Men Movie Series. They needed somehow to followed up it with something much bigger. And with those movie goers (not comics readers), clamoring to understand a certain hero, they'd came up with a_sudden_history/origin for Logan.

I have read the how, why, when and where he was born, grew up and all. All I could think of is...OHMIG@D! Almost same as the Dark Vigilante from another major comicbook publishing. Anyway, I do love their movie trailer and so is Hugh Jackman. And, heck! I'll watch 'em..just because.

Every last Sunday of the month, the KOMIKERO of Sir Gerry Alanguilan meets at the Sampalok Lake, San Pablo, Laguna. I haven't really gone that much last year so, when I saw Gerry and the other guys last Komikon (which was held last November 22, at the Bahay ng Alumni, U.P. Diliman), I told them that I would join them to the next meeting. Since Robin is a big fan of Gerry, I told her that I will bring her along to the next Komikero meeting.

SUNDAY; Jan 25, 2008

Sleep over at Robin's house Saturday night. Her mom was so nice that she reminds us a lot of what to bring and even gave us blessing before heading out. I love her mom alot. So we left the house around 7am and we got to the lake at 10:30a.m., and the temperature there was so freakin' cold. Here comes the fun part. While waiting for my fellow Komikero, we saw familiar faces approaching at us.

This is the Next BoyBand of the Philippines...Give this goup a cool NAME.

And to our suprise, it's our co-Bayan Knights members. Mike (Boy Ipis) Ignacio, Rhiver (Manila Man)Quilantang, Juan Paolo (Morion) Mañanita, Aaron (Gwapoman) Felizmenio and his classmates. It was so nice to see them all there. Anyway, after a few minutes of kiddin around the 1st komikero arrived , it wasJohnny (Johnny Balbona) Danganan. My first time to meet (Like I said Jonas, this is not the 1st time) him was at the Komikon two years ago, but somehow he doesn't remember. And the next to arrive was creator of Elmer himself, Gerry Alanguilan. Boy-ohh-boy! If I only have a camera that time, I'd sure wanna take a picture of my fellow BK and my lovely partner in crimes faces. Ang saya-saya! Gerry and Johnny have to leave us for awhile. After a few minutes they we're back again. And Gerry welcomed the new Komikeros. All of them knew bout the initiation or welcoming rites of the komikero (just ask them what they did...to all those who wants to join Komikero - bring extra clothes, towel and soap just to be sure you all go home dry), and after that Gerry asked them for their portfolio. Great reviews and only Neigel shell-out a couple of peso for every minor error Gerry sees on his works. And while Gerry was busy reviewing, Jonas Diego arrived.

CONTINUED WHENEVER POSSIBLE-- :P

A cool time with the P.U.P. students

I got a text from someone named Joshua. I don’t usually reply text that I really don’t know who they are. But a few hours later, I got an email confirming that Josh is indeed a student of the said school and really is inviting me for an interview regarding the state of comics in the Philippines. And I also told by my co-BK(Bayan Knights) members, that they too were asked.

So, I talked to Robin and she thinks that we should do it. And so I replied to Josh to meet us at Power Books / coffee shop at SM Megamall after office. The day and time was set. I was playfully teasing myself that “Myke…you’re starting to be notice as a comicbook artist now - asteg!.”

Interview day arrived. I came earlier than Robin and since I always take the MRT going to Megamall, I usually enter the mall through Powerbooks. And I went to the place where I agreed to meet Josh. And to my big surprised, he was not alone! They we’re more than six there. Since it was my first interview, I did start to panic (seriously). So I start texting Robin and even called her to know where she was and I do really need her. She was smiling and so amused from what she sees in me, a very frighten guy.

She told me to relax and focus, and I followed her like a child. We went to where the kids are and started immediately. I was sweating hard even if the place was freaking cold. A few questions here and there and we’re good. I have relaxed to the whole thing interview thing. And yes, Robin was very supportive. She never let me trapped in one spot. Assisting me and even answering some questions too. After 20 minutes, co-BK member Jaybhoi (kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala) arrived and joined the mixed. It was fun. Jaybhoi, Robin and I really enjoyed being with these very promising kids. They too we’re so nice and very fun to be with.

Well, I just hope the answers we supplied to you guys are enough to help you on your thesis. We’ll pray for your success and again, thank you for interviewing us. Goodluck!

Follow up:
Last Thursday, Josh texted me again, asking us for another interview. Because the last part of the first interview that we made were not properly recorded. So, yes! We agreed to meet them last Friday at Starbucks, Megamall. Only Josh and Jamie came and it was much relaxed and fun (funnier too. I made a fan art for Jamie on the spot - peace Jay). As usual, we did enjoy the whole interview thing and the place too. Hope we had more time to talk to Josh and Jamie, but Robin and I really need to run (I have to cook for her family "Sinigang na Baboy" that night).

Robin's (longish) postscript: Yes, Myke was nervous on the way to the interview; but by the time it ended, only blunt force trauma could have stopped him from talking... and he really can't blame the iced tea for that, hehe.

The exchange of ideas went really well and Josh and his team were wonderfully engaging interviewers. I have no doubt they'll all meet with a considerable measure of success in their chosen field once they graduate :) and I'm personally looking forward to seeing their work in mass media.

They asked quite a number of thought-provoking questions, but what I'll remember most is the one Jamie posed. She said, "Straight answer lang po, pero sa tingin ninyo po ba naghihingalo na yung (local) comic book industry?"

I replied that while the industry is no longer one from which more than a select number of creators can earn a decent living, there are signs that it will at the very least continue to thrive. There are more comic book conventions now, for one thing; even the smaller comics-related conventions and conferences in schools help to create continued awareness of the industry and of the titles being currently produced. Independent creators also have more means now by which they can release their work, and online fora as well as social-networking communities go a long way in promoting these books.

Then I said that the creators' attitude toward their work, that of wanting to finish a book not for fame or fortune (although yes, yes, a bit of each would be nice) but simply because it matters to them is what ultimately will keep the industry alive.

That is something I believe with all the fiercely giddy love of my fan-girl heart, as I like to say :) ... which is why it annoyed me to no end when it was Myke's turn to answer and he said, without preamble, "Oo, naghihingalo na..."

I'll let him talk more about what he said if he wants to, but I'm happy to report that Jayboy vindicated me in the end by saying that while he thinks the industry isn't doing too well at present, he's still optimistic about recent developments. I recall hearing him say, "If someone wants the autograph of an unknown artist from Tacloban, we must be doing something good."

And that too is something I truly believe with all the love of my fan-girl heart :)

A BMX rider will always be a rider by heart.

After high school, I was unfortunate not to go to college. My family wants me to take work instead. And so, I find myself a job as a messenger and janitor (yep, they ask us to do multi-task here in our country...and you "good Investors no need to get us INSURANCE"! Cool gov't and a cool country).

Anyway, after saving enough money and building my first ever BMX bike, I decided to leave that work. And concentrate on riding FLATLAND. A form of BMX riding where one concentrate to invent tricks with their bikes on a ground surface. I have alot of good experience with my bike. Riding also put the word dedication and hard work in my book. With out those you won't last on anything you get into in you lifetime.

BMX pushes me to my limits. I will start riding as early as 6a.m. up to 10a.m. and resumes around 4p.m to 7p.m. and talk about dedication. But in 1995 I have to bid farewell to the sport that guided me to who I am as a person now, to purse my long time dream and that is to study Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines, Diliman to take up Fine Arts.

FAST FORWARD -
2001 Asian X-games invades Manila.
I was then hook up again. For two years I join Xgames, not to win, but to enjoy what the event an give me...the FUN of RIDING again. I hold on to the bike, practising even if the Xgames are long gone. The bike was my twin. My conductor. My emotional and mental conditioner. Until It was stolen back in November of 2006.

After that, I really have no where to go. House, work, house and work. It's been like that since. But after meeting Robin, everything was like returning back to normal. I need to control things and she gave me that, but not explaining to me first the things behind em. And we we're great. She is great. And I forgot about riding because of her...well not for long.

Christmas time, she suprised me with this...

THE NEW TERRY ADAMS DVD titled "DREAMS"

I really couldn't believe that she actually buy this. It was like unimaginable for a girl to understand us guys with our hobbies or passion for sport. But here I am, holding the DVD. Last night (Jan. 13), we both watched it and all we both could say was...woooah! All 45 minutes was like a trip to insaneness and excitement. The fire within me that was defused, suddenly burns again. The DVD was HOT!

In the beginning, God created the heaves and earth and then a movie called Star Wars was born. Released on May 25, 1977 by 20th Century Fox, and became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon, spawning two immediate sequels released in three-year intervals. And 21 years later hoards of Star Wars fans had made their own contribution or tribute to the "Force", and with this I gave you FANBOYS.

A comedy movie which sees a group of die-hard Star Wars fanatics attempting to steal an early print of The Phantom Menace for their dying pal finally gets a release early in 2009. A version of the movie with the cancer-stricken fan removed nearly made it to cinemas in 2008 but was met with a vast internet campaign that demonstrated the awesome power of the fanboy.

After creator George Lucas was given an advanced screening of the rough cut of the film, he enjoyed it and gave it his "stamp of approval" and even offered the original Star Wars sound effects for use in the movie. Filmmaker and Star Wars fan Kevin Smith also viewed an early version of the film and asked for (and was given) a cameo in the film.

The film was originally to be released on August 17, 2007. The movie was pushed back once more to January 2008 because director Kyle Newman was given more funding to shoot additional scenes that the original budget did not include. Getting the cast back together would only be possible in September 2007. And then there was The CineManiac that broke the story that the movie was being re-edited to remove the cancer plot from the movie and replace much of it with raunchy, vulgar humor.

Upon hearing about the changes being made to the movie, dedicated Star Wars fans united and started an internet campaign where fans rebel against the plot changes and demand that the original version that includes the cancer storyline be released in theaters.

Fanboys is a film directed by Kyle Newman and starring Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Dan Fogler, Jay Baruchel, and Kristen Bell. It will be released on February 6, 2009 (in theh U.S.). MAY THE FORCE BE WITH US ALL FANBOYS!

Ka'Jo Baldisimo goes International

I remember back in 1995, 1st year college to be exact (University of the Philippines, College of Fine Arts) when I met great artist such as Ian Sta. Maria (Skyworld), Mike David (Kubori Kikiam) and Culture Crash start and Icon Melvin "Taga-Ilog" Ignacio. These guys were bound to be a star within the comic world.

Although, Ian was the only one who I work with, share ideas with and assault each others heights, I practically knew bout Melvin and Mike through their very gorgeous, friendly female classmates. But someone at that time really got my attention due to his clean ala Jim Lee style of work, and that guys is Ka'jo Baldisimo.

Ka'jo, by-far is one of the well known comicbook artist in Manila (Philippines). His works with "Trese" titles along with brilliant writer Budjette Tan. Scoring great reviews from art-critics, writer(s) and editor(s). Although, before that book, his artworks was more western style which I really loved. He creates details meticulously that an average artist hate most of the time doing. His strokes were fast and clean that he doesn't need blue led at times. A very good inker too. Ian, Ka'jo, me and some of our classmates when we we're freshmen created a group for comics called "BLOCK COMICS". We created that group to be our flagship, to launch our own original Character(s). We almost pull it through, though lack of funds forced us to shelve the idea the next year.

Back to Ka'jo. Anyway, he is now going international. Tapped by Darkhorse Comics to draw The DEFUSER. Leaping from Stan Lee's hit Sci Fi Channel TV series Who Wants to be a Superhero? onto the comics page -- it's the Defuser in "Future Imperfect!"

No much really said about him on the site, but I am pretty sure we will be awed by his works when we get to see the first issue.

To Ka'jo, Bro...Congratulations! We're so proud of you.

Happy New Years guys!

So here I am again, blogging. A busy last quarter for me last year and this I think would be a new and better beginning for me this year.
Mike Ignacio and I did come up with Boy Ipis/Claw #1 back to back (Flip-up)issue of Claw (Turf War story) which is edited by my future wife and co-author now of this blog Christine "Robin" C. Rivero.

So, I am coming up with a new name and banner soon.

Fan arts had started coming in too for Claw. Last to send me was co-Bayan Knight artist/creator Ner Pedrina (I haven't scann the artwork...sorry) and from Juan Paolo Mañanita better known as Wann. Before him was a suprised fan art from Michael David of Kubori Kikiam. Posted them on my DeviantArt.

LOVE AFFAIR (All time favorite movie)

Honestly, this is my favorite movie of all time. I know, it's too mushy, but hey... admit it or not guys, we all wish we could have experience this kind of a love when we were all single and before all hair starts to grow from all over our body.

A remake of both 1939's Love Affair and its remake, the very romantic 1957 An Affair to Remember (the film that inspired Sleepless in Seattle: starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks : also a great movie). In LOVE AFFAIR starring role were played by husband and wife Warren Beatty and Annette Bening. She and Warren Beatty met on the set of Bugsy that year was 1991, in which she played Virginia Hill, and the two began a secret romance. They married in 1992 and live in Los Angeles with their four children. Back to the movie. LOVE AFFAIR is a story about two people who meet by chance while vacationing and falls in love. Unsure of what to do next, they separate and vow to meet in three months' time...an appointment that one will have trouble keeping. With Pierce Brosnan, Garry Shandling, and a memorable supporting turn by Katharine Hepburn as Beatty's aunt.

UAAP (University Athletic Association of the Philippines) - Semis

Though my ever loved university (err...funny but yeah I am a U.P. Fighting Maroon - who would think I am one anyway) never got back to the semis (I guess two decades already - correct me here if I am wrong), I still try to watch them (if I have time) and watch the drama between De La Salle - Green Archers and the Ateneo Blue Eagles. Although I am more amused of watching UE (University of the East) and F.E.U. (Far Eastern University) because of their gritty, rugged and never say died attitude on the heardcourt, it can't be denied that the La Salle and Ateneo finals would bring on that drama-like t.v series pinoy love so much.

I don't know anyone on both side except for Ateneo's Chris Tiu who had been around the hoop league and everyone could watch him on his own show, but the rest of the team doesn't ring a bell. I heard and saw a few game of Al-Hussaini (this guy is solid! Few more years and a tougher and more moves underneath the board could spell trouble for NCAA's Sam Ekwe if they'd would play for the PBA in a few years from now - but the latter is much taller and a great defender and scorer (another story on him soon). Same goes with the present La Salle team, I wish I had more time watching television or maybe watching a live game (which I haven't done in a looooong-long time). I love both coaches, Norman Black on the Blue Eagle squad and Franz Pumaren at the Green Archers. Both coaches are point guards when they were still playing pro.

So, honestly, whoever wins this year doesn't matter to me, as long I have a little relaxation, it's all fine with me.

I have heard so much of Atty. Michael Gurfinkel. He or his law firm specialized in U.S. Immigration Services. And, they are the best! And they do give a lot of chances to other people to live that dream. Alot of high profile personalities here in the country who had different problems regarding U.S> Immigration and all, got their services, and got very high positive results. They take their work professionally. I have read some of the the "Success Stories" they post on their site and honestly, my dream of coming and living in the United States had fast deteriorates. I think I am now fast accepting my fate to die here and never had the opportunity to live, work and enjoy life in the U.S..

Oh..Their successful stories really pump me up. The vision of working there as a graphic artist or a comicbook artist was like it's so for real (too easy). But then after reading and reading, I realized..Wow! how could I pay them? Good services nowaday come with good prices. I am just fooling myself here. Honestly, I have relatives that live in the U.S. and some goes back and forth, but, it's not like they would help us nor my family to go there. We're not those kind of families that cares and protect each other and elevate those who are in need of help (I envy some of my classmates in U.P. that their relatives helped them find works there), ok, they do help in some little ways.

On their site says "... Through hard work, determination, and years of experience in immigration, litigation, and negotiation, we have been fortunate to help thousands of people solve their immigration problems, be reunited with their families, and be able to live the "American Dream." Yup! It'll be only in my dreams, to live that "American Dream".

Atty. Michael Gurfinkel and his team are very good and they are the best! Hope to meet him soon. A signed picture with autograph should be enough.

Writing Responsibly

Every now and then, we all did some things we wish we never said nor ever written. Or if we do write, we just write things what is necessary. Recent days, I was bombarded with hate comments for the post I made here two months ago regarding what I felt for a friend and to his predicament.

The post was just a sentiment here for and on that day alone never to be looked back. I blog for something for a certain event, or what I do feel on that day, good or bad. And again, for that day alone. Heck! I don't even read it a second time to check if my grammars are correct. Most of the time, they are all wrong. (thank you Ma'am Kathy for pointing those errors). I won't be saying too much anymore and put details into it, for it might be read differently once again. My wife is in much pain and in fear. That is why this is also for her, to somehow pacify her.

I just want to say, SORRY to all those people which was affected with what I wrote and how I wrote that piece.

I am sorry to you guys that it came to you that way. Specially the excerpt part, I wrote it as an enlightening part to the sad, bad things that happened to my friend, or our friend. Something which, I though of what would "Claw - Logan or any super hero characters with bad attitude like Lobo" say or how would he say it. And I wrote it down. And I wrote it not in a way to instigate a fight among us. Again, It was all written badly.

I could say sorry and explain to every context that you guys read. But, I know it won't matter. But I am still hoping that with this, something might come up and with this I am hoping that I could be forgiven.

Again, late or not, I would like to ask each and everyone that I offended or made them feel to hate me, that I AM VERY SORRY. AGAIN, FORGIVE ME.

Seeking and maintaining peace is something I always do and not to set anger, hatred or worst fear to anyone or everyone. Now I know what responsible writing means. We learn from our mistakes.

My first project. It's been a year and 3months to be exact that we (Tim) first talked. Asking for my services and how much. I never given him a tough figure payment since this will be something very special, I never bother about monetary stuff. I just want to draw and being entrusted by someone with his own work is just to much to ask. So yes, I quickly agreed to draw this book.

A year and three months later, yeah I had manage to do only 5 pages. Tim had some stuff he had to do first and they had their first child. I was very happy for him and his wife and fully understand the situation.

Two days ago, I got an email from Tim and he just sent me the script for this story. And once reading it last night. I started to draw the first page that I read. And I am very very excited that we are now back again.

Thanks Tim for all the trust and patience. We can do this. I know we will.

My Working Table

After the Pens. My working Area. The drawing board. Although I'm not living on this apartment anymore, I think I need to put them here since I had stayed there for a year and a month. Missed the place, the first place I had called my own home. It is nice to have a place your own, but I guess I am destined to go back home (for awhile) to help my parents and I guess to fix whatever problems they are having right now.

As you can see, my Drawing board is just placed on top of boxes. If you're thinking if it's sturdy or not...well, I had drawn there for many nights. Though, the short height, give me some back pains from sitting on a small plastic stool.

Here, you can see that I am working on the pages of "Children of Amulets" (formerly titled "Tatlong Boyz"). I have draw 8 pages already, but have to re-draw the last 3pages...I hate what I did there. Anyway, this project wont come out this year. Financial wise. But I am hoping that Claw Issue #3 and #4 would be present this coming KOMIKON. Lets all just wait and see.

What Pens Do I USe?

Someone had asked me on Deviant Art on what do I use for Inking my art works. I am not a brush or Dipped Pen guy. I am more of a drawing pen guy. And here are my instruments:

1. Uni Pens (#.1, .3 .8)
I have them and using them for almost 3 years now. Very smooth handling. Good inks. Water proof. It easy for those croquil pen effect (thick to thin flow lines). And it is in the mid range price. Not expensive but not cheap either. Good for those who wants to start investing on pens who could give good result to your artworks, pronto. Price range: P52

2. STABILO Pen 68 / Eraser / .5 Mechanical Pencil(not in picture) and HiPolymer Leads (B)

Though I have used so many brand of mechanical pencils, I am currently using one from Stabilo. Their Pencil Leads are some of my favorite to use. Does not break that much when I am doing some hard strokes and it doesn't produce smudges when you are having a wet hand syndrome. Good clean and very cheap for a branded instruments.

The Stabilo ExamGrade Eraser: The best since the dust free eraser came out. I LOVE IT! I became an instant admirer of this product. Before I was using gum eraser, but those types leaves sticky stuff on your pencil case or bags and they are getting expensive every year. So, HAIL! STABILO ExamGrade!

STABILO Pen68
I am just trying this new product for a few months now. Use it for easy fill on big black areas instead of using paint brush .3 and my (elephant brand) Indian ink. Not as dark as I have expected and it only last for 3 to 5 pages of heavy black pages. Don't usually use the Photoshop for filling those black area.

3. DongGa My-Gel Pen .7
A very cheap yet very usable pen. Handle it wisely and you'd get those curves and lines that you want with eased. And it is very very cheap. P12

Draw back: Slow to dry and it blots when you drop it and worst... It wont write at all.:)

But still it's a good product to have for those starting to draw and investing on drawing instruments.

4. Pilot .7 Pen and Pilot COLOR Eno .7 Mechanical pencil with .7 colored lead.

Use it for outlining and plotting my artwork/pages. So there is no need for messy pencil lines and strokes. And their the only brand that sells blue lead. A little expensive though. P50 to P80 for the Mechanical pencil / P45 for the lead (6pcs), WOW!

5. WACOM Graphire 4 Tablet
The last on my instrument. I use this for some final retouching and cleaning of my finished inking pages/artworks. Very useful and very expensive. Price: Check your Local computer shop for prices.

So I hope this will help you eased up in choosing your drawing instruments.

EROLL, JOHN and ME

This is the group that would bring you a new comic book(s) to read next year. We are fondly called "Tres Amigo" by our colleague at KOMIKERO, Mr. Jonas Diego.

John Beccaro and I met after the 5th anniversary of Komikero (that'll be the Dec 2006). Funny thing there is that, I went there (San Pablo, Laguna) on the said time and he arrive after we've left. When I saw the 5th anniversary video at youtube, I wrote him on his DA, and we talk alot of stuff. Eroll See came I think March or April of 06. And after the introduction,him, John & I were good friends. We instantly created Devils Creed's story. We finished the artwork and the all is ready for the 2nd Komikon, when Johns PC gave up on us.

After a few months, Eroll when to U.S. of A and he is now doing a comic book (the title to follow) and he tapped us to ink (by me) and colour (John) the book. It'll be a hell of a comic book for his buddy there is a very good writer "Cris". Anyway, i'd give you some update from time to time about the progress of the book.

A STOLEN BMX BIKE

I am and will always be a BMX flatland rider. No matter what I chose to play now, I still long for that time that I'd ride my new bike and bust those old routines that I have. I even rode in the pro level, ASIAN X Games that were held here. My first was at BONI, then the 2nd and the last Xgames was held at Alabang town Center. But I guess, that dream would have to wait.

My bike was with me for almost 6 year when last November of 2007, my BMX bike was stolen. We have a suspect, and one of my rider friend was approached by that person and offered my bike. We were ready to buy and apprehend that person, but sad to say, he suddenly disappeared with my bike and the last thing we know is that he already sold my bike.

That person (who stole my bike) was apprehended and put behind bars, but not because of what he did to me, but because of his other offenses, which includes murder! yeah! he isn't the guy you wanna mess up with and I won't be out of my mind ready to confront those kinds of people (well..better not push me either). Sad thing, he was freed on bail. Some justice system we have here in the Philippines. Now I know that when you have money and connections, you can really get away with whatever crimes you are involved with.

I was assigned to design a poster lay-out for the High School reunion that we will be having (jeez! Now everyone would know how old I am...SOB!) A retro feel, instead of those late 80's POP poster layout. When Michael jackson was soo BAD! And Tears for Fears Can say MAD WORLD. Ang Aga Mulach's Campus Beat Reaching Out like Gary V's.

Anyway, A retro feel for the new ages. I mean, I had to bridge the present year from that era and, with those circular element putting the continuity of of what we are, an alumni of our beloved alma-mater, San Jose Academy de Navotas. Condolences to the family of Mr. Michael Turner.

One of my favorite artist, and my younger brother Matt Renz's favorite artist too. Michael Turner primarily known for his work on Witchblade, Fathom, Superman/Batman, and various covers for DC Comics and Marvel Comics. He was also the president of the entertainment company Aspen MLT. Michael was discovered and hired by Marc Silvestri who owns Top Cow Productions at Image Comics at a convention as an artist. He initially did background illustrations for Top Cow titles before co-creating Witchblade.

Why Me interested on NASA, Einstein, and his Theories

If you read my 1st post for this month, I have mentioned that I've put xlinks on these sites. And you ask, "Why does an artist like me, would be interested with such topics like these?" and it's simple. I was a science geek when I was in grade school. I may not be excelling at science or math or earth science. But I was always in the library. Reading Science books. Like Space, Solor-sytem, Rockets and other stuff not really being discuss on a class room (i was studying at a public school).

When I had entered 5th grade, I was more hook-up to it. I'd bring books home from the library and reading them every night. Returning them once I've read them from cover to cover and only to borrow the next title that follows it. Yeah I was fascinated with molecules and had encountered their theories. Over whelmed with the possibilities and stuff. You know, a kid dreaming big stuff. But it was also the year that I had to compete more on Drawing Contest for school. The Museums and exhibits were the fun part of it. My Inventor/Scientist/curious mind would manifest on those places and would dream about what I have learned from those visits.

I remembered when I was in 2nd grade, our teacher asked us "What do we want to be when we grow up?", Most would want to be a teacher, an engineer, manager or soldiers. And when it was my turn, I have no other words to say than just being a "Scientist". They were like, whoooaaa! Is that you Myke? And my teacher had uttered, "That was an unexpected thing coming from you Mike". For them, they saw me as a slow learner and just into drawing super hero back then. But they never realized that where I get ideas from drawing those stuff, which I see most to sci-fi tv shows. And if you are into those stuff, you should understand everything within it. Like, how the heck does a robot moves? Where did its laser beam comes from and how did he made it. Who made them.

And when drawing spaceship, you are intrigue on how does it fly. How come it can go to space and does it comes with a comfort rooms? Every kids who draw would know how to explain all of these to those who would look at their works. So, on my part, I was like, "hey! I want to build a robot or a spaceship when I grow up. I wanted to visit the moon too. I've encountered Albert Einstein when I was only in 4th grade, and that was the turning point. Knowing all those scientist, from Grahambel to Edison. I was even hooked to the tv show Edison Twins and Twilight Zone.

How I wish that back then, Internet was already being used and computer would be as fast and high-tech as today. And applying for some advance education regarding space and learning more about NASA would be a one click of a button.

Now that I am a professional Graphic Artist. I still dream that someday, I could be a part of a space program and someday I too could walk in space. And do those "TIME-SPACE WARPS".

KOBE BRYANT DIE HARD FAN (After Michael Jordan)

After his Airness-"Michael Jordan" departed from the hardwood, there wasn't anybody out there in his position, as a guard/shooting guard that came close to him than Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Okey. There is Vince Carter. But the guy is just a pure high-jumping, scoring machine. He never got close to an NBA conference finals.

Then you've got Tracy "T-Mac" McGrady. He is more of like a Scottie Pippen player. But he lacks the defensive knowledge of the later.

Then, lastly you say Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Don't get me wrong here...he is good. No, he is Great! But honestly speaking and I hope everyone would agrees with me that, he plays like Dominique Wilkins. A good scorer and a very good leaper. But again, not as close to playing like Mike.

Now, Kobe. He plays as hard as Mike. Moves and have some traits like Mike inside the court. But the one thing that makes them the same is their determination to win. yeah, both have this attitude towards his teammates. Because they both want those people to play like it would be their last game. To give everything they've got to every game. Push their bodies to the limits if playing "hard-nosed defense". But unlike them, their teammates succumbed to a big melt-down on their most important game. Just like what happened to the Lakers team in Boston. Kevin Garnett just ate them for breakfast.

Understandably, the two guys Kobe depended upon to do the dirty works and give him a clear path going to the lane, didn't do their jobs. Power Forwards Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom wasn't effective at the finals. It's like they've just done their work after winning the Wester Conference Finals.

The inside presence wasn't there. The tenacity. No fire coming from their eyes. Odom even (almost) weeps after the game six interview. I read on the net that he is the candidate for a trade, or worst, just ship-out. Poor guy.

Anyway, Kobe was not the usual player (that would score 81pts a game in one push of a button) he wanted to be in that finals. He was very comfortable and trusted his teammates so much, that he depended on them "BIG-TIME"! And as we all know, they just disappointed their Captain ball. Unlike Michael, Kobe doesn't have a reliable back-up (with Mike, there was always Scottie Pippen). A partner in crime. He needs to find that person, that player, to really finish the job when all the defense are clogging down at him. He should find that guy.

Hope next year, we just won't be winning the Wester Finals, but the NBA's Championship as well.

Hi guys! Nice to be back here and writing on my blog again.
Well... you asking me why I haven't updated my site lately?

The months of November to April (sometimes up to May or if it comes to worst...June) would be may peak season at my work. And doing research, lay-outing, designing, Overtime and beating deadline and all just freeze up my mind. Then, there's Stephanie Angeles "F - A Fusion of Food, Fashion, Fun, Finds and Fitness".

A fun site to view. Very warm and light site.

Then, last but not the least, Jean Nepomuceno's "Iamjean" and "My so-called-life" which the later is her original blog. Well...like the two previous blog-chick, Jean's blog is a mix of both. And I learn alot from her (we do chat sometime) regarding the pay per post and the painstaking of registering at "Paypal". What I like about her blog besides her nice topics is her choice of music being played.

This girl is very workaholic (and that's why you always get sick...get well soon sis!), and she talks too much that she always spills up new and informative topics (which I benefited alot...hehehee). Her blogs are a must read and worth checking. Ohh...and for the guys who are asking...well...she is already "TAKEN".

It was the day all comics afficionados are waiting for. Tons or comic book writers, artists and publishers ( and even some big name companies )had gathered to give us the present crop of talents here in our country.

Me, along with my younger brother Matt Renz, had our own booth that we shared it with Mr.Randy Valiente (KOMIKS SA PANINGIN NG MGA TAGAKOMIKS). I happend to give my comicbook "CLAW" it's perfect gift for it's 10th year. Claw (a.k.a. Migs) is a decade old! Along with my other title SY.B.O. (Synthetic Beta Operatives). As to how I planned Claw would be a compilation of the first 4 issues. But due to lack of financial support, I only manage to print issues 1 and 2 on an Ashcann format and placed it on a brown printed enveloped with the title printed on it. I would also liked to thank my very good editor, Ms. Mary Edeza de Leon, for making my english carabao readable. Thank sis...and regard to your partner.

Hoang Thuy Linh Scandal

This is Hoang Thuy Linh....
A very vibrant and very talented teen superstar out from Vietnam. This 19 year old is a singer actress. Famous for her leading role "Yellowbird" in the Vietnamese Television Show The Yellow Bird's Diary.

Now she is the subject of controversy, humiliation and the people of Vietnam had already judge her. A video sex scandal of her with her ex-boyfriend is now hot on the net. The video spreads out like fire as it reaches the parents of the children once her fans and her home studio.

After a few weeks she gave a public apology on air and her TV show was suddenly cancelled.

I read a mean comment on one of her video at YOUTUBE, apologizing to the people and to her family and friends. So I made a sudden comment as well...

WHY BE TOO JUDGEMENTAL? Let us try to understand her situation.

I feel sorry for her. I've heard what she did and I think the people are so harsh on her. I remembered Jesus said in the bible, "he whoever doesn't sin to man and to God should be the first one to throw stone at her(referring to Magdalen)". Why can't this apply to Us now living?

From what had happened, your country seem all too HOLY and too Judgemental. Instead of helping her move on and begin a new life after the big mistake she done, YOU...of all people should help her overcome this traumatic chapter of her life.

Instead, they buried her more to the point that she may never ever could stand up. ALL OF YOU ARE JUST WORST THAN HER (a friend of mine commented). We just hope that it would happen to all of you who judged her that way.

To Hoang Thuy Linh, forgive yourself & forgive the people who judged you. There would always be a better life for you. God only tested your true faith in him, and I know, he would give you a much better life after this tragedy.LIVE LIFE THUY...LIVE & LOVE LIFE.

To all those who read this, let support THUY. Let us show to her that there are more individual who understands her and felt so sad to what she is going through and wishing and praying for her to have a very normal and much better life after it all calms down. Sad thing is that, her website and the program site were removed.

EARTHQUAKE 2007

Exactly 12:22pm (Manila time), we were hit by an earthquake. From how it felt, it could be at intensity 2 or 3 it's almost a minute before it stopped.

Were here at the office. 8th floor. Hungry and tired. This is my first time to experience it on a much higher ground.

CJC KOMIKS...FINAL ISSUE

This is my reaction to Mr. Randy Valiente's topic about CJC's last & final issue of his komiks...

Malabong maresolba ng sterling ang problema nila, dahil sa paningin ng isang tao dyan, sya ang diyos ng komiks at sya ang nagbigay buhay sa mga ito kaya andyan ang limang komiks sa ating mga kamay. Sya ang utak. Sya ang kamay. At sya din ang magsasabi kung ano ang dapat at hindi dapat. Kung pabiro man ang katagang nabangit ni CJC na "NA WALA NANG IBANG KOMIKS NA MAKAKAPASOK SA MERKADO KUNDI ANG CAPARAS KOMIKS" iyan ay pahayag ng isang sugapa sa kapangyarihan at yaman.

Alam naman nya siguro na bago nabuo ang kanyang Caraoke Caravan...este Caparas Caravan, ay meron ng "KOMIKON". At sa KOMIKON, tayong mga independent artist, writers, colorist at kung ano-ano pa, ay muling nagkaisa, sa ating munting kakayahan at pagmamahal sa ating sining (at hindi para kumita at magkaroon ng marangyang pangalan) at ang malinaw na intensyong maibalik sa naghihikahos na mga Pinoy ang pambansang tagapag-ubos oras (kesa manood ka ng DVD na puro PORN at makipag-tsimisan)ang KOMIKS.

1995, sa UP Faculty Center una tayong nagbuklod buklod (nagtulungan ang ALAMAT at College of Fine Arts), upang maipadama ang lakas ng ating dedikasyon at pagmamahal sa komiks...sino ang nag gabay sa atin ng mga panahong iyon? Diba si Whilce Portacio. Sa kanya tayo lahat kumapit at ilan nga sa atin ang mga nabiyayaan. At ang mga taong naging disipolo ni Whilce ang talagang umalalay sa komiks, lalo na nun itoy nasa "Life-Support" na. Dumamay ba sya (CJC)? Asan sya? Gumagawa ng mga penikula nya? Binigyan pansin nya ba ang KOMIKS ng mga panahong yon?

Honest opinion, ginamit lang nya ang KOMIKS para i-angat ang pa-wala nyang career. Ginamit nya ang mga kawawang mga mahuhusay na artist at creator sa mga ilang na pook, para manipulahin nya. At ngayon, pati un tumulong sa kanyang publishing company, gusto nyang manipulahin? sa paraang hindi na sya mananamlay muli. Pero nagtagumpay naman sya sa una nyang intensyon...ang buhayin ang kanyang career to the expense ng mga kawawa nating mga artist at writer.

Pangising lang sana sa ating lahat ang katagang binitawan nyang ito..."na wala nang ibang komiks na makakapasok sa merkado kundi ang Caparas Komiks."

Kung ano ang gusto nyong hakbang na gagawin para sa pagmamahal natin sa paglikha ng komiks, sana wag lumaki ang ulo natin pare-pareho at hangkahan ang ibang mga magsisismula pa lang. Tulong-tulong tayo. Wag kanya kanya. PEACE!

There comes a time when you dreamed. Dreamed that someday you can do things your way. You know for yourself that you can do it and pull it off, no matter how big or small that dream is.

I have dreamed of giving my comic book a good start to the public by making it a Graphic Novel. A book in which 4 issues were compiled.

I have dreamed that I could share to my friends, relatives, classmates, town-folks and acquaintance here or outside friendster, my thoughts about my town, different personalities of people and what I hate most, Politics.It's all there, in my book.

I was so excited and optimistic, I ask friends, relatives, classmates, town-folks and acquaintance here or outside friendster some help and honestly, not half, no, just few replied and few helped in different ways. But it's to expensive to print the book and I ask people two months or more ago for some help. But It fell on deaf ears and cold hear. Or maybe, they're not into "COMICBOOK" after all. Or some just wants you to be just where you are, AT THE BOTTOM.

Whatever their reason for not helping at all, is something of a mystery to me until now(well, I'll pretend that I don't really know). But one thing is certain. You people WIN. I won't be a name to most people. I won't be a somebody to young adults and kids that I could have a good impact or a roll model for them to follow and learn something from me.

Only a few weeks from now and it's already the holy day for us comics aficionados. November 17, 2007 marks the 3rd Komiks Convention. With Lots of new faces to see. Works to make our eyes pop-out of it's core. And New titles by our co-indie artist that were gonna buy.

Well, also to expect is my own graphic novel titled "CLAW". Written and Illustrated by yours truly and edited by Mary Adeza deleon. A decade long of work. I never thought that I would be bringing him up to this level of comic book making. It was only a passion. A love that were forgoten...remembered...forgotten and remembered again, but it's now here to stay.

Where are those P10 Komics they've just said available?

I got a copy of the comics. I agree with you that it wasn't that easy to get a copy. I found my copies at Malita exit on a friday morning. I've look every newstand that I know off, and not even one carries out the CJC comics. When I got ahold of em, I started to look and read all titles. And I was so impressed by Kroko. I want to congratulate Hal Santiago, for it was only his works stands above the rest of the pack. Galing!

And the question in mind are, how long will these last? Would there be any continuities? Are there gong to be any upgrades on the qualities of their hard copies? Would there be any chance of making them coloured like they used to be? I've notice that only back pages were the only one with advertisements and I don't think that those(advertisers) could support the weekly releases. Much more..would sterling be at the winning end here or Mr.CJC? How about the artist? Are they well compensated? Hope they are not paid by the basic rates or less?

And I think a cool suggestion is that they'd put on every Issues the artist profile. I mean, we need to let the audience know who are those great people behind that great comics that they are reading right now...and not only Mr.CJC get all the praises. He cannot do it all by his lonesome, db? And I am not against him when I said it. I mean, we as an artist should not only be known by our peers alone, and not be know by our audience by names or alias alone and they don't anything bout us personally. It'll be great if kids would look up us and knows who we are and what we do look like. I see the cool work, but I don't have any idea who the hell are those damn good artist who draw these cool stuff.

An artist profile on the middle page could be a wise move.

Just a comment and not any intention of taking a cheap-shot on Mr.CJC.

Like Joey delon said "Explain before we complain". Relevance? Nothing? Just wanna put it here aswell. But if it bugs you, then, go ahead...explain.

A good friend of mine wrote in his site about my book. Here is what he says:

More and more people are going into self-publishing.

There’s a lack of publishers in the local Philippine comic book industry comic creators can approach with their opus especially with the current state it’s in. Creators instead turn to non-traditional channels like web-based publishing (webcomics), mobile media publishing (mobile phones and PDAs), and self-publishing.

One of these brave souls is fellow Komikero Myke Guisinga.

Watch out for his book, CLAW.

Watch this page for further announcement and details. He’s going to try and make it available to as many outlets as possible. He’s also accepting advertisements so feel free to get in touch with him.

INTERNATIONAL WORKS

Never thought it could happen to me, but it did. I have been working on a project for a few months now with Tim Greenhill (he is in the US of A). A very good writer. Anyway, he contacted me last April to be his artist for his book (title witheld for secrecy purposes). I send him a couple of things that I want to consider if I do become his artist.

First, my name should appear on the book, because I hear alot of things regaring Filipino comicbook artist never given respect on the book they've drawn.

Second, Original Artworks stays withme...hehehe!

Third, complimentary copies. And he agrees to all..even the price I ask per Artwork.

I just recently got an email from him, for I have submitted some of his pages, and this is what Tim has to say:

"The artwork is freakin incredible. I mean i left it up to you to design the uniform look for the characters and you knocked it out the park. I can't tell you how truly pleased i am with all the effort you've put in to assist me on this project.
When i opened the attachments and saw the artwork i was blown away. The omega symbol on the belts is classic, love it.I haven't received the other pinups/ pages yet and to say i looking foward to it would be a understatemnet. Just to add i did want mindseye to have some sort of trench type jacket over his uniform. I can't decide which i like better ,because the xion ,mindseye and kili sketch looks like a perfect cover. The blaze picture is amazing."

KOMIKON IS GETTING NEAR!

Who is not excited to the coming event? Hundreds of aspiring Artist? Mind bugglig Writers? Multi-Peso Generating Publisher to crush these over excited INDIE people? Or just a child at heart wonderin'... ME?

Well, whoever they are...eeer...us, it's no secret. This is one of those events that is being awaited by thousands to arrive. And two months from now, and we're all gonna see each others works. Those hundred of minutes we waste to finish a page 'till 3a.m. in the morning ('coz the coffee is still pouring from your cup). Those expensive pencil leds, kneeded erasers, blue leds, and tens of different sizes of art pens. Not to mention those bristol boards that we buy by tens.

Now, all those hard works and expenses will finally pay off. Em not saying, that it's too expensive to make yer own comics ma'lad. But it's em passion...the guts that we always say to our selves whenever we finis a page or two that "DAMN! YOU WILL BE SEEN AT BE KNOWN AT THE COMING KOMIKON". Damn! But would they buy my work?
Well...last year's convention, we were supposed to show to our pears our own work entitled "DEVIL's CREED". Character owned by Eroll See. Penciled by him and Ink by John Becaro and me. Story was a team work of me and Eroll, while the script was dug up from my nutshell. Anyway, we rushed to finished the comicbook, but alas, when the glorious day came, there was no Devil's Creed. God must have some reasons? We just think positively and hope by next year it will be much ok. So, there I was sitting at the Alamat booth, and throwing stupid old (very old) jokes with Ka'jo Baldisimo(TRESE) and Ian Sta Maria (ULTRA COP), my classmate in college at U.P Fine Arts) when a friend from my town came up to me and ask me if I were selling my works too? I said no, but I have some few copies of my old works. I gave him a copy of "CLAW #2" (which in the compilation that i'll be selling, I didn't include that issue. Why? BUY THE BOOK to know why...), and then a guy approached me and saw me giving away my coming, so he asked me if he could see it, I show him one, and after browsing it asked me "how much is my comic". I said, did u like the comic and he smiled and said "Yes". Then I told him, "Sige na bro...sa iyo na lang yan. Next year's Komikon, watch out for the compilation". He said, "Oo ba!" and he thanked me. He stayed and talked to us for a few minutes before I excused myself. That was last year. This year....DAMN! IM SO EXCITED! Can't wait any longer.

The 3rd KOMIKON

The 3rd Filipino Komiks Convention aims to bring together comic book artists/groups and publishers in a venue where they could present their talents, works and services to the public. Most importantly, it aims to give a break to aspiring comic artists. It would like to offer a venue for new art groups and different generations of artists for a free exchange of ideas. Hopefully it would lead to a transcending of stereotypes and broaden the scope of comics – from local to international to cross-cultural, sequential to strips, amateur to professional and traditional publication to independent comics publishing. This event will raise awareness of the exciting state of contemporary Philippine comics industry.

KOMIKON is the event that aims to gather its supporters and creators in one place to commemorate komiks as it deserve to be distinguished. Contests like the Independent Comicbook, On the Spot Comic Strip Making and the Original Character Making Contest hopes to bring out the next generation of Comic Book creators to the fore front. Our special guests, comic book superstars from the past and present, both coming from the local and international fields will be available for consultations. They will share insights about the industry through their multifaceted experiences. Fun-filled activities will also be provided by our exhibitors through their respective booths and own activities.

This year's event will still be held at University of the Philippines Bahay ng Alumnai, on November 17, 2007. The event is organized by The Artists' Den and Groundbreakers Inc.

I Just finished reading the last blog log of Ms. Julia Campbell, and after reading it, I can only say one thing... She is more Filipino than most of us who are born and grew up here.

Alot of us are trying our luck outside to give our families a better and brighter future. But to some foreigners, Philippines is the place to be. How come we don't see it the way they see our country? Is it because we are all too fed up by politics? By the church look at the problems as a test of God to our faith and not to vacate our Christianity? Or plain and simple, we don't have any LOVE anymore for our country?

Honestly, I am one of those poor souls whose contemplating on working abroad. Yes, I am earning fine compared to the Basureros & tinderos (wow! can't imagine myself earning that small amount of money & have to divide it to almost a dozen children).
But still, I want to give more for my family. A decent home, my own car, a good school for the kids and a 3 times a day meal (well put two more for the snacks.).

Ms. Cambell and other foreigners are so much inlove with Philippines because of the warm welcome they always receiving from us Pinoy. The beauty of the Seas, the jungles & forest & scenery's. And I guess, I too for one would be easily attracted to that. And try to convert their money to ours is like a fortune (another topic...soon). They are INLOVE with US. People, to the places & to our culture. We could easily win anybodies heart's and trust to our personality. But we Filipinos, took advantage of those people who is very willing to help us grow and leave the place of poverty. (Honestly it's not the church nor the politicians that would save as from these predicaments that we're into...but our selves. We just need the likes of Ms. Cambell the real way to grow). POLITICS & RELIGIONS SUCKS! BIGTIME (I am a beliver of God & the heavens above...but I am no practitioner of any mankinds self greedy intentions.

We have to grow...
Grow in a sense, as a person. As a well rounded human being. And a person who would really love their country & our very own neighbor. Most of us Filipinos are blinded by greed, selfishness and hatred. We do sometimes need to be told, straight on the face, that we are now a bunch of leeches.

When will we grow up? When do we learn? When will be the time that we would swallow our pride and accept the reality that we (as a country) stinks, BIG TIME!

I hope I had meet Ms. Campbell & her group. I think I could learn something new with them. And I hope & Pray that she is still somewhere out there, alive & well. But if not... Prayers to her and the one she left behind.

On April 21, the Instituto Cervantes in Manila will join the international celebration of World Book Day with a series of cultural events open to the general
public. The International Day of the Book is marked every year on April 23. The idea for this celebration originated in Catalonia, Spain where on St George’s Day, males and females traditionally exchange a rose for the gift of a book.

Instituto Cervantes will have an Open House on April 21 from 10am to 11pm featuring Filipino writer’s book-signing (F. Sionil Jose, Gregorio Brillantes, Marjorie Evasco and Jessica Zafra among others), jazz concerts, dance performances, and film showings (At 2pm La Colmena, based on the novel by Camilo Jose Cela; then at 6pm El Metodo, based on the play El Metodo Gronholm), Spanish wine & cheese tasting, free

Brand new Facelift

I hope you are now aware that my blog got some minor face-lift (from me ofcourse). Sorry to all those who wanted to put their comment on CLAW ISSUE#1. My fault. I un-intentionally disabled the allow comments. Now it is already functioning (You can ambush me with your sharp, hot comments).

Two more weeks and I can start my focus on printing CLAW. Two more week and that’ll be the time I would decide If drawing comics would be my life or work to another country as a janitor in some 2 to 4 star hotel and let my passion for comics would be put into cyro-genic state once again.

I love the people I am working with but I have family to support and what I am earning right now isn’t enough. Well..it is enough if you are not thinking of saving for your future and those who depends on you. And just contented at this kind of very poor lifestyle.

Some thought that I was earning the same when I was working for Creative Skin & Spa few months back (last year-dude). I don’t have any other freelance work to back me up. It’s a hard time for me. And I need to make a decition very quick... and soon.

Hi there guys! Lots of new stuff are coming in this March, but first let me tell you that I too have joined "COMICSPACE". It's so easy to join. Get your Account...NOW!

Now, regarding March Surprises...A new title from me should come out (& comic pages as well), they are: TATLONG BOYZ, BIKER MAC & PIC, LICK & DICK! ( I dunno bout the DONE DADDY & the Fright Squad...panget pa kasi ang mga drawings ko noon.)

TATLONG BOYZ (Myke Guisinga Story & Art; Edit / Script by Mary Edeza De Leon)

Story about three (3) PMA (pahinga muna anak... at Pasaway at MA-a- Angas), namely:
Matt San Lorenzo - As BOY LINDOL! A mystery why whenever he would visit a girls house, tremors would always be felt by the residence.

Jaz Tino - As BOY HANGIN! Talks and brags alot but can run as fast as the wind, and there's...

Paulo Jayvee Daknay, P.J. for short as BOY TIGAS! Small but terrible. He is as tough as rock(when it comes to stubbornness & hard-headed)!

They went on a vacation to P.J.'s province (Baryo Walang Dios)without them knowing that the place now resides the deadly "ASWANG (Vampires, Zombies)" and other bad spirits live and cultivates. All of the town folk are frighten because of what happened to a near-by-town. They were all turned to "ASWANG" and those other that refused were killed or much worst...eaten alive.

P.J.'s grandmother(Nanay Perping) and the lady good spirit of the mountain Diwata Leoneng were the only protectors of the town from the "ASWANGS". But Nanay Perping is too old and weak fighting the "ASWANGS". The last fight almost got her killed. Timely, the tatlong boyz visits him. He instructed P.J. and his friends to get and perform a ritual, but without her telling them the reasons behind all those erands (as she told the three boys).

There and then, the three got superpower. Each and everyone binding to their personalities but without getting a word from Diwatang Leoneng. And thus, they've became the protector of the town. Fighting the ASWANGS and Malignos.

BIKER MAC is a comic strip that I have done along...long time ago (91 to be exact). I just recently got them out of my cabinet. It's a story basically based about me when I was still a teenager and riding a BMX bike. Hmm...It's not too original, but heck...I love teh corny jokes (ang abbaw kasi).

PICK, LICK & DICK! Those who got the copy of my comic book "CLAW issue #2" would know by now who these guys are. A Comic strip type. Full of humor but suggested for Mature readers. Why? Try analizing the title itself.

So...there you go. Next week you would see the pages of Heroes and Dreamers "TEEN PACK" story. Yan sigurado na ako dyan!

AZEHR & Nostalgia Manila

I know I am not updating my blog as often as before. I am just a little busy nowadays. Office deadline is killing me, though I’m still having a lot of fun. Now, what’s new from me? Well, I do not know bout you guys, but I am having fun viewing / reading NOSTALGIA MANILA blogsite. The site is concentrated in bringing back all the stuff from the 70’s. From cool tv series to commercials. Cartoons. Movies and even music. The site ROCKS! They even add me to their links.

Then I’ve also met a cool writer/poet using the alias “AZEHR”. She opted to be recognize this way. She hails from Butuan City. She is staying right now at Cagayan De Oro to finish her studies (Liceo de Cagayan University - Good luck sis I believe in you). Her writing is too personal and that in a way could be make any guy’s blood pressure reach to it’s boiling point. Most of her works are to sexy and passionate. Mostly expressing her true, undying love to her former boyfriend. However, there are more than love story from her. I just have to find a way to link her blog without jeopardizing her identity. I should convince her to make a new blog without too much info bout her. For now you can read some of her work at my “Soft Side”.

Heroes and dreamers first page will come out this coming Monday (Feb. 12, 07), you would be reading the first story from H&D. Then Claw the re-birth is almost finished. Some new pages have to be made to nearly half of the storyline because some had been damage due to moist and not properly protected (heheheh! My Fault!) artwork. Now If I could only get enough sponsors to cover up the cost of producing it. How bout some help guys? Page advertisement? Any takers? The cover is colored. I am still in thinking if it’ll be a jacket form or the traditional bind. But let us get back to page advertisement. I could accommodate a full page and half page Ad. How much would it be? HAPPY NEW YEAR to all! Sorry for the delay of my blog's update. It's been a busy '07 here at the office, and I couldn't wait for eternity to signing in (Blogger / Yahoo Mail), takes too long... Like FOREVER signing in. I'd rather shift to friendster's blog if this thing won't clear their acts together. Anyway, before I could start my blabbling... I have added/ link some new people here at my blog.

Great artist Oliver Palumbarit and my schoolmate from U.P. Diliman, Hazel Chua. Cool Writers Mary Edeza De Leon (she'll be editing my re-issue of "CLAW") and Jervin Reyes (my nephew...damn! I'm gettin old....). And a very good friend from New York, Mr. Joe Sutch. He is a great sculptor and owns this big bar in NY. For good informative blog-site there's: Nostalgia Manila and For The Love of Filipino Comics. So, there you go, enjoy reading and looking at their stuff.

Now, to my updates. I have already done some pages for Heroes & Dreamers "TEEN-PACE", but I haven't post it yet due to some minor revisions to the characters image. Heroes & Dreamers is © by yours-truly. Resemblance of artworks to some characters are not intentional. After that storyline is Heroes & Dreamers "TATLONG-BOYZ". I won't give any details yet, sine I have just started conceptualizing the characters. Then there's the Anthologies (why plural? well, there are three incoming book compilations that I may join in) one with Jonas Diego & John Becaro. The other one is with KOMIKERO (which I hope I could attend this sunday's meeting)and the last would be with Jonas Diego again. A very busy Myke is now within your reach. Don't forget the freelance works that I am getting and a Badminton game evry thursday night and basketball every fridays. COOL SKED!

Christmas is just around the corner

Christmas is just around the corner. While most of us are very excited to welcome this very glorious event, I am not one of those. Why you ask? Well, first, Just last two weeks ago (Thursday morning, Nov. 30), one of my dearest cousin. Leonila “Ate Leny” Reyes-Sevilla passed away. She was just laid to rest just last Saturday (Dec. 9, 2006). The family still grieves I hope we can all move on as quickly as possible. But it is really hard, when if you are very close to that person.

Second… My PC gave up on me and when I needed it most! My clients just have to wait till next year for me to finish their project.

3rd. No back-up money to pull out and the person who I thought would somehow ease my financial crisis, just lets me down. Woe is me! Prayers are heard and I know they were. But I guess, when this time of year comes, God doesn’t have time to listen to some small lousy prayer like mine. I can understand that and I can understand what he is facing right now.

I guess, like my clients, just have to wait ‘till next year for graces would appear.

since the sun diappeared on my sight.
Looking and patiently waiting
On something undefined.

I notice how different this night was
from any other night before
There's neither stars nor cloud
seven the moon doesnt show up tonight.

Unaware but wondering
On where this night is leading
Could it be one of my unforgettable nights,
or one of the nights I'll despise all my life?

I was about to stand and leave
When suddenly a shooting star appeared
Fast, almost unnoticeable
But it left a mark, somewhere across the blue sky

Instead of closing my eyes
to whisper a wish
That reminded me of you
You came suddenly from nowhere

Leaving me everyday with questions and answers in riddles
but its something I dont like to admitand will never admit.

You're like a shooting starvisible to my eyes yet too far
Like a shooting starUnsure and unsecured of your existence.

One day, I'll look backOn how things happen between us
And I'll smile, knowing thatYou're just like a shooting star
Will come and go
Appear and disappear
leaving a line in the airJust like a shooting star.

--Never had anyone made me something like this.

WASTED KO

Yesterday (sunday Nov.12, 06) I made this artwork of Gerry Alanguilan's Wasted. I timed myself almost 6 hrs. In-between those are watching VCD of Memoirs of a Geisha and eating footlong. I have to stop watching the movie, It reminded me of someone. It did affected my mood in some ways, after viewing the most of the film.

Anyway... It's been a long while since I draw pure pencil again. And my hand have become so stiff. You really have to practise your hand everyday. and your mind aswell to guide you properly.

After finishing this drawing, I've started doing Ian Sta. Maria's "SKYWORLD" character, which I don't know what his name is. After I am done doin that, the next work would be on th H&D comic strips.
